Hidden in plain sight in #Newcastle, the Wobbly Duck is on the lower floor of a grand old building - the historic oven is still there. With a great selection of beer, it’s the perfect retreat from the hellhole that is Eldon Square.

Like stepping back in time, the Kelham Island Tavern is that most wonderful of pub - traditional in look but with modern beers. With sandwiches on the bar, it takes the best of the past and sets it in the contemporary.

An unassuming place on the edge of #Loughborough town centre, Wheeltapper was a great find. Great rail-themed interior and decoration, good selection of local brews and a friendly and knowledgeable landlord.

A fantastic little pub near the Meadows in #Edinburgh, the #Dagda is the perfect mix between modern and traditional. A great sociable space with a good selection of beer.

Sitting there as the evening sun glinted through the window was special.

Originally a Victorian #pub built to serve the railway workers, the Fox in #York has been given a new lease of life by #Ossett Brewery.

Its interior is stunningly restored to give an authentic feel, with small rooms, fires and lush furnishings.

A pub full of character and (good) characters, the Thomas Tripp in #Christchurch dates from 1750 and - like many historic pubs in the area - has connections to smuggling.

The oil paintings on the wall now immortalise local patrons.

It’s a squat green, oddly windowed drinking machine. The Poole Arms seems from another time and makes the most of its location on the harbour front. Great views, menu full of seafood and good local ales. Nice.

A quintessential English country pub, the Trigger Pond in Bucknell near Bicester blends great food with welcoming pub atmosphere. Lovely old building, dating from 1637, and fantastic staff. It’s opposite a charming village pond too.

Pub-hunting at this time of year always leaves me with loads of photos of pubs bedecked in festive finery.

I mean, I’m fine with that, but it looks odd if I’m still posting them in June.

That said, Poole looks great with a bit of tinsel and some twinkling lights.

Behind this unassuming exterior is a rather large #ruinbar with a vast garden. Csinos Presszo in #Pécs harks back to the early days of ruin bars when they felt like a real discovery - and were eye-wateringly cheap.

Am I unnaturally drawn to Czech bars or are they just great?

Even in somewhere as wonderful as #Gdansk, I found Balsam so appealing. With a proper tapster serving Pilsner Urquell and Kozel, and delicious beer snacks, it was wonderful.

It’s #Mikkeller in #Shoreditch and is an extraordinary place. Local, corner-pub vibe with outstanding.
