I would encourage them to look for additional ways to support these folks at PUI, helping them to keep their research agendas alive. It already happens to a certain extent, but needs to become much more common or we will truly lose a generation of scientists.

Adjusting to a heavy teaching load will be a major adjustment, but those of us already at PUI are here to help them make that adjustment. I'm really fearful that some great research ideas will wither on the vine. This is the other place where PI at R1 can help.

Candidates without much teaching experience that aren't all that qualified for what we will be asking them to do. PI at R1 institutions probably need to revise some of their thinking about these opportunities for their graduate students and postdocs to help them be competitive.

Not all will find safe harbor in industry labs. Some will seek positions at PUI, even though they may not have considered this as an option previously. I have already seen this in the job applications I have seen for open positions in my department.

Saturday's session of the Maize Genetics meeting involved a lot of discussion of support for junior scientists in this time of turmoil and uncertainty. I think one important component went unsaid.

My postdoctoral advisor is a very deserving recipient of this award. Wish he could have been here in person.

Factor in the economic impact when you consider the marked up cost of patented forms relative to the cost of purifying a cloned version yourself.

Collins looks like exactly what they want people to look like: white, cisgendered, male, straight, Christian. He even wears a suit and tie. But he was Fauci's boss and followed the science.

They are coming for all of us.

At the moment, mansion-sized Asteroid 2024-YR4 has a one-in-fifty chance of hitting Earth in the next eight years.

Now might be a bad time to reduce spending on Science. Just sayin’.
