31 Hell House LLC: Lineage
I was unsure about the change in format this far into a series, but the third person let them tie up some loose ends.
Weird that they end on a cliffhanger and the director says this is his last one.

30 Found Footage
Goofy film poking fun at the found footage genre.

29 Squirm
Perfectly meh "revenge of nature" type 70s horror. The shear volume of worms for what otherwise appeared to be a low budget film was impressive.

28 Spree
Another entry in the horror subgenre of "well that could just happen".
The reddit posts at the end really emphasize that this is just a small twist on a thing that's actually happening.

27 Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1931)
Pre-code movies are always a fascinating look into the early twentieth century.

I liked it overall. Unfortunately, it contains the most egregious example of the "bury your gays" trope I've seen in a long time.

I'd like to but I haven't started yet. I have an idea for a low stakes mm romance.
They kinda do though, at least storytelling wise. Focusing on deaths, there aren't that many. The others are terrible people- corrupt, criminal, or the villain- and they're killed with headshots to the side of the screen. Terry and Marcus' deaths are brutal, undeserved, and in our face.
I believe it was @annaleen.bsky.social a few years ago who said Hollywood really wants us to know that old women are very scary. Since reading that I can't unsee it while watching horror movies.
This. Also the most egregious example of the bury your gays trope I've seen in a long time.
Is anyone still doing NaNoWriMo?
Call me crazy, but I feel like a police officer should know why they're arresting somebody.
Yes, Lord of the Rings is about how you must trust the βhard men.β Just as Narnia is about an evil lion. And the New Testament tells a tale of a wimp who wouldnβt fight back. Next week on βfascists read classics,β weβll meet tech visionary George Orwellβ¦
23 Wolf Man (2025)
Felt like something was missing. I think the reveal with the Dad should've felt like it mattered, but it didn't.

Oh I saw Scaredy Cats' YouTube videos on this one. I've been meaning to watch it.
22 From Beyond
Love me some 80s practical effects. Not so much the 80s misogyny.

21 Virus :32
Decent rage-type zombie movie. It might've been lost in translation but I couldn't figure out how the infection spread.

20 Smile 2
Didn't like the first one and this did basically the same thing.
Everything was a hallucination and nothing mattered, all in service of a "shocking" ending that played out exactly how I expected based on the trailer.

JK Simmons is a demigod in a rest stop bathroom stall. Who could resist that elevator pitch?

18 Drag Me to Hell
Goofier than I was expecting based on the trailer and promotional images, but it is Sam Raimi after all.

17 House of Wax (1953)
I can see how this movie made Price's horror career. Of course without the 3D effects the 3D gimmick moments are funny and distracting, but I'm sure they were revolutionary at the time.

16 V/H/S: Beyond
I almost always enjoy a found footage movie. Sci-fi being my first genre love I largely enjoyed this one. The frame story felt like it set up something that was never delivered. The last segment, "Stowaway", is gonna haunt me for a while.

14 T-Blockers
Decent indie film on a shoestring budget. Refreshing to watch a movie that can be blatantly political without both-sidesing or couching the message in so much metaphor it says nothing like the mass appeal blockbusters do.

Watched this one last year and really liked it. Been recommending it. π½πΈ
