As the Lib Dem Transport Spokesperson, I raised wide range of key issues impacting road safety.
A clear example of inadequate road design is the A417, with a lack of safe walking infrastructure, designated cycle lanes, and challenging road conditions.
These changes by the government are very poorly thought-through, and introduce yet more complexity and inconvenience to our already baffling and Kafkaesque rail fares system. I will be writing to the Rail Minister accordingly.
Many, myself included sometimes, prefer to buy the day before, particularly for an early start, or to avoid the risk of forgetting until the last minute and potentially then missing a train whilst doing it on the day.

🖼Local museums have battled against financial cuts and inconsistent funding. The Vale & Downland Museum in Wantage is just one example who have felt these pressures.
More must be done to further support for these venues to ensure their huge benefit to the community is able to continue.

A key finding from the Centre for Cities' "Measuring up" report in 2021 reads: 67% of people in large European cities can reach their city centre by public transport within 30 minutes, compared to only 40% of the people in Britain’s comparable cities.
The UK’s complicated planning system and the lack of decisive policy and leadership on urban transport, are major factors. Light rail schemes in Leeds and West Yorkshire have become the most famous examples of endless cycles of “Yes, this time it’s happening”, followed quickly by “Oh, there is no money/business case”.

This morning, I pressed the government on rising motor vehicle theft. 🚕
Over 130,000 motor vehicles are stolen every year in the UK, with a 75% increase in a decade in England and Wales.
The government must improve vehicle and fob design standards and regulation.

Today is Holocaust Memorial Day - a day where we remember the six million Jewish men, women and children murdered in the Holocaust.

For the next few weeks, I will be scrutinising the Bill being put forward by the government, where I will be pushing for amendments to improve affordability and efficiency.

🚂 I presented a bill for a Rail Passengers' Charter to be created. I highlighted the importance of investing in public transport that is accessible, high-quality and consistent.
The Charter will put passengers experience and value for money first, ensuring good intentions become reality.
In parliament, I asked the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office if they will seize the opportunity created from US funding cuts to health research.
The UK should take action to embrace world-leading researchers to support the Global South and boost the UK economy.
