What is Solarpunk? Solarpunk is an artistic movement that envisions the survival of humanity and nature in harmony. Solarpunk envisions methods of adaptation to the climate crisis alongside restoration of nature and our solidarity with it. What ISN'T Solarpunk? While this is subjective, we would not consider the following themes to align with our interpretation of solarpunk or our curatorial goals: Fantasizing about the destruction of humanity Post-apocalypse wherein the focus is destruction of civilization, humanity being “punished,” etc, even if to uplift nature or non-humans. Space colonizing, space travel, or terraforming new planets. Emphasis on technology alone as a climate solution. IMAGE: Still from Annihilation (2018) Dir Alex Garland. Humanity and human interference is quickly reclaimed by nature in this science fiction film. While this is a great film, it is NOT solarpunk in theme or ethos.

We are looking for: Artwork of all mediums (2D, 3D, traditional, new media) that embodies the theme, particularly narrative art, illustration, and sequential art. Bio-Art should be pest-resistant no gen-AI or AI-Assisted artwork will be accepted. 2D and Video Artwork from international submitters. (read call for specifics) Programming proposals for workshops, lectures, and beyond. Events that embody a DIY and Mutual Aid spirit highly desired!
