Happy birthday to everyone who hasn’t had a proper weekend birthday in more than a decade. Imminent lockdown 2020 and just out of lockdown 2021 definitely didn’t count as relaxing!
(2021 may have been partly my own fault for applying for a job at the opposite end of the country.)

They do also really appreciate the benefits of tourism. We visited shortly after the Brexit vote and most people there were sad about the outcome. They have done a lot in the Algarve to keep things as easy as possible for visiting Brits.

We were there last month, exploring the coast from land and by boat. One of my favourite places in the world.

Just persistance. Definitely not hard work.

Oh, surely we have to give him persistance? He’s been grifting for decades without taking the hint that no one sensible is the least bit interested in what he has to say.

20 years ago I went to a slightly more enlightened church who “let women” (🙄) do most things except be the main leaders. I felt more like than equal there than in the CofE who had only just begrudgingly allowed women priests. I’m not sure many churches have fully got the hang of equality yet though.

I also still own all my old CDs and DVDs although they never get used - we no longer own a CD player, or a computer with a disc drive, and the PlayStation does for DVDs.

Yes, I still live in the mid-2000s. I paid for those mp3s/ripped CDs and won’t give them up easily. I store all my older music on my laptop/external hard drive and used iTunes to transfer them to my iPhone. Now I purchase stuff via the iTunes app and don’t bother much with iTunes on my laptop.

Did she say that? I may have missed it but I watched the whole thing and it would contradict everything else they said about being able to improve with hard work. Much as some people do seem to be naturally brilliant, those are also the people who spend their whole lives trying to get even better.

Is less maths necessarily a bad thing if people become better and more confident at using the maths that is most relevant to their every day lives and to careers that are not specifically mathematical?

In my entire life, I’ve only ever been to one shop with a communal changing area. It’s a something like a Tammy’s that only sold clothes for girls and it was the 90s. I have been known to accidentally use male (individual) cubicles but I regret to inform everyone that the world did not end.

Grammar schools themselves are not really the issue - they usually provided a strong academic education that benefited their students greatly and provided some degree of social mobility. Kids that were "left behind", however, got a raw deal, and determining all that at just 11 is harsh.

An A Level Maths student of mine today referred to “that storm in the nineteen hundreds”, and I had never felt older.

Absolutely cash rather than gift cards for so many reasons. However I also feel they are not being unreasonable to expect the QR code *on the card* to give them the correct Ts & Cs for that specific card.

A maths puzzle:
We must start with LWW or MN.
Everything except MN and H&B must stay in the order given below.
The order of MN and H&B could be swapped but H&B must come after LWW.
We must finish with LB.
How many possible orders?

I’m currently reading them in chronological order (MN, LWW, H&B etc) but I agree that someone reading for the first time should do your way, at least to start. I’m now trying to work out how many possible sensible reading orders there are… #Maths #Permutations

Don’t be silly. This isn’t for us women folk. This is for School Leaders (Very Important Men) to make decisions for us about how to keep us happy and well-behaved. Naturally, we’ll be at home cleaning.

ALT: a man in a white shirt and blue tie is standing in a plane
I spent several hours yesterday evening squashed between two giant men on a plane, manspreading with abandon, and using both armrests to dig their elbows into my waist, so forgive me if I’m not terribly sympathetic about a little “slow walking” 😂

Good news, guys! We told the rental company as soon as the accident happened. They hadn’t given us the right form to complete so we tried to report to the police but couldn’t. We returned the car as planned, filled in the form at their office, and didn’t need to pay a penny. Quick, easy, no charge.
