Maybe we'll get WWII-style guides on growing vegetables in your backyard, even though the people struggling most with cost of living don't live in a home with one.

My favourite is Coleco, originally the Connecticut Leather Company.

No one would have bought a video game console called the ConnecticutLeatherCompanyVision

@occtranspo.bsky.social Stuck on the Westbound train a few metres away Tunney's for the past 10 minutes.

Train braked too early/quickly?

Forget that. Bring back the farthing (1/4 a penny), or even the quarter-farthing (1/16)!

Twitter decided to mass ban anyone using OldTweetDeck (the only way to get the desktop layout people liked), including my account. I'm betting a lot of journos and politicians might have been hit by it as well

I'll probably appeal it, but they're really trying hard to push out remaining power users

Went to see my first West End show last night. A Man For All Seasons, starring the amazing Martin Shaw. Snagged a great seat, and got Shaw's autograph at the stage door!

Elections Canada right now:

Question for election nerds out there: When was the last time a federal election result flipped after the recount? I'm sure there are some provincial examples, including straight-up ties, but I think it's been rare federally.

Until 2018, there were two people specifically forbidden from voting: The Chief Electoral Officer, and...the Assistant Chief Electoral Officer.

Over the years, I've been making sure to save local copies of party platforms, since they're very ephemeral these days and you can't depend on Internet Archive having all of them.

One of several poor decisions of that government re: the Parliamentary precinct.

1. A military memorial, when all other statues on the Hill are of individuals.
2. Just steps away from the National War Memorial (I know, it doesn't cover pre-1867).
3. A musket is *aimed at the memorial*

I managed to visit DC and NYC for the first time in my life in the past few years, giving myself plenty of time to see everything. So at least those are out of the way while I move on to global destinations (Paris, now London this year).

But lots of other US places I'd like to see someday.

You mean "The Guv"? That could be anyone! There are a lot of bank governors out there with contacts in Canada and the UK.

It's sad, but not really surprising to see Zach Paikin become an apologist for Russia.
It's delusional to think that Russia doesn't want territory. If they actually offered to withdraw from all occupied territory in exchange for no "NATO expansion", Ukraine would accept it in a heartbeat.

This part is the scariest, and most misinformed:

"The artificial line of separation drawn many years ago will finally disappear"

The border has been around since the American Revolution, and the War of 1812 was fought over it!

Maybe they'll blame it on DEI hires at mission control.

"We'll get an AI to go through them", they'll say.

With predictably disastrous results.

The US extorting minerals from a country under invasion for 3 years (and, broadly, in a conflict for over a decade) is more disgusting than if they simply pulled out aid.

Though, I'm not discounting the possibility that Trump eventually tries to nationalize the Smithsonian or does a shakedown on them ("Either pay up for the prime DC land you 'owe' us, or eliminate DEI and 'anti-American' exhibits").
