Is this true @ntcouncilteam.bsky.social?
Irony is the council owns some e-bikes (which seem permanently to be in storage, but perhaps not in council buildings).

Map of Newcastle centred on Sandyford with a pink line running from Haymarket towards Heaton, up to the coast road, then through to Jesmond.
Join us this Friday for a social cycle ride in Newcastle. Start 6.30pm outside Newcastle Civic Centre for a shortish ride
We will be heading along the cycle route to Heaton. Then back through Jesmond towards the city centre for some beverages and a chat.

Bike hire - with a big blue flag - at Tynemouth Surf Co.
A busy day on the North Tyneside seafront, despite the unwelcome chill, so nice to see lots of folk using the cycleway, including small kids with their families and bigger kids with their friends. This is what itβs about. Oh, and a new bike hire spot at Tynemouth Surf Co.

FAO anyone in or around North Tyneside and in need of or considering getting a bike:
4. Will you commit to delivering safe routes to all North Tyneside schools by 2030, creating school streets outside every possible school (first/primary, middle and high) and prioritising the provision of a high quality, safe and connected walking, wheeling and cycling network around each school?
Our question to mayoral candidates was also about βprioritising the provision of a high quality, safe and connected walking, wheeling and cycling network around each schoolβ and all of them committed to this too.
@ntcouncilteam.bsky.social needs to have the same ambition as other urban authorities, to ensure the boroughβs children are safe to walk & cycle to school, enabled to make those choices confidently - choices that are better for the health (very broadly defined) of our children & their communities.
All of our mayoral candidates agreed unequivocally that all possible schools should have school streets by 2030, in the words of our new mayor, Karen Clark βsomething the public can get behindβ.
We currently have 6. We have 56 first/primary schools & 4 middle schools. Thatβs a lot of work to do.
Join us tonight for a leisurely spin along the Sunrise Cycleway. 6:30 start from Tynemouth Priory.
We did also ask a question about women and girlsβ safety and he was clear on that (streetlifentyneside.org.uk/2025/04/13/p...)
Some of us have challenged Bones on waggonways in the past. He will not take our various concerns on board.
Telegraph headline: Cyclists who kill pedestrians to face life sentences Offence of causing death by dangerous cycling to be brought in line with motoring laws in victory for campaigners
So the first real policy decision on active travel or road safety by this government is a law targeting cyclists which will do nothing for road safety, briefed to a newspaper which openly hates cycling. Whatever your hopes for active travel from current ministers, perhaps calibrate these downwards.
The greatest variance is around a good, safe cycle network, with the Conservative candidate focusing on (unsafe, indirect, limited) waggonways and both the Tory and Reform candidates seeming to suggest that βresidentsβ should be able to veto cycle paths.

This post has now been updated to include a response from the Reform candidate.
We now have responses from all 7 mayoral candidates, giving North Tyneside voters a chance to really scrutinise the differences between them on active travel and public transport.
@northeastptug.bsky.social
Please do read these, think about your votes next week, and follow up with the issues that concern you after the election.
We asked public transport accountability, franchising & municipal ownership, women & girlsβ safety, safe routes to school, the local cycling network, pavement parking, and joined-up active travel and public transport.
With the North Tyneside Public Transport Users Group (@northeastptug.bsky.social), we asked all the mayoral candidates a series of questions about public transport and active travel.
We received responses from 6 out of the 7 candidates: streetlifentyneside.org.uk/2025/04/13/p...
Due to construction of the new Seafront Cycleway, we're postponing our next Kidical Mass ride until the summer to celebrate the launch of the route. With construction work & diversions, we can't plan a safe route for the numbers that usually join us. Join our mailing list for updates: bit.ly/3YRJ5CY
This sounds familiar round here tooβ¦
(Realised, after looking at the survey/map, thatβs itβs going to be located by the haven, not on the new cycleway; still NCN1 though)

We have 7 candidates standing (my.northtyneside.gov.uk/page/34585/s...) and weβve emailed all but the Reform candidate as we canβt find an email address for him - if you can help, please let us know.
Together with the North Tyneside Public Transport Users Group @northeastptug.bsky.social, weβre sending a set of questions about public transport & active travel to all the North Tyneside mayoral candidates.
Weβll publish the responses when we have them.

Weβre part of this coalition and we wrote, with our allies across the region, to push NECA and the mayor to be more ambitious and work harder to reduce car usage.

Issues raised around active travel links to public transport, dangerous junctions on the Coast Rd cycle path, and pavements damaged by regular & normalised vehicle parking.
