Islands Matter & FSRS Faroese and Shetlandic Folklore
'Water Beings in the Faroese Folklore - Tradition and Change' by Professor Jóan Pauli Joensen Jóan Pauli Joensen is Professor of Ethnology and Culture History at the University of the Faroe Islands. He has written numerous articles in scientific periodicals and papers, and has published several books related to Faroese culture history and traditions. His most recent book, Bót og biti vol. 1&2, (Stock and Bite) is about the cuisine of the Faroe Islands. The book explores Faroese food culture within its wider historical and cultural context. Surveying a broad variety of sources, the book collects anecdotes, recipes, and interviews, exploring food and customs. 'From Fetlar to Foula - The Norse Roots of Shetland Folklore by Associate Professor Andrew Jennings Dr Andrew Jennings is an Associate Professor at UHI Institute for Northern Studies and has a particular research interest in the Early Medieval History of the Scottish Islands, with an emphasis on place-names and the Vikings. He wrote his PhD on 'Gael and Norse in Western Scotland c.795 to c.1000'. His other research interests include Island Studies, with a particular focus on the islands of the North Atlantic and the Baltic, the history of the North Atlantic between the years 500-1200, Norse Mythology, Folklore of the Northern Isles, Gaelic Culture, and the history of Shetland.
