Yes, we definitely need artistic humor. And when it can be blended with educational content... that's the big winner!

No, there's no guarantee for something like this.

HOWEVER, we can put in place mechanisms to help reduce the chances. We've far too few POTUS guardrails in place. That's what enabled Trump to stomp all over the US Constitution. SCOTUS in his back pocket. GOP as complicit enablers.

I'm not suggesting that they legislatively regulate media. But there should be a non-partisan trustworthiness index for them, so that people can know what can be trusted. Because right now, there are really bad actors getting away with so much toxically false propaganda influencing.

Don Jr. and Eric invested heavily in a drone company that... is now contracting with the Pentagon. So the Trump family is directly profiting from the war in Iran. This is just one case. How many more are there? Kushner is also in on gaming the system. They're all getting away with it.

Also, the message keeps changing. In one case, Trump says it's not a war, and that the "retaliatory strikes" are almost over... but then in the next moment, he says it's a war that could be endless. And then he says it'll be a war they'll win "quickly."

The Republican Party did what the founding fathers didn't expect--an entire party complicit with a coup. They've essentially taken over the US gov't at the federal level and are now trying to do so at the state level.

We have a tragically diminished public that, on average, is "poorly educated" as Trump said about the people he loves so much.

A) Check out the federal benches in all of the district courts. There's many where there's now a majority of right-wing justices.
B) Yes, we still have some justices who strive to be non-partisan and uphold the law. But their numbers are diminishing with each new appointment by the Trump admin.

I was reading and watching politics on TV and in newspapers back in the 1970's.

I am not saying the US gov't should have legal oppressive power over media outlets, to "control the truth."

They should have a non-partisan agency to rank media outlets based on the content they provide. At least it would be something people could reference to understand which ones are trustworthy.

I'm having a difficult time engaging on this topic. Different reply threads, different branches... It's a terrible medium for discussionn.

I remember it happening. If an outlet was caught selling a lie, that there would be outrage, and subscribership would drop. But then they'd issue an apology and eventually recover. That's not to say it was a failsafe. But the fear of that did keep a certain decorum. Not so much anymore it seems.

Well, right now, we have a runaway admin enabled by the political party in power. They planned this. They packed the courts with far-right justices. Our government is pretty much 90% broken right now. We need new guardrails to prevent this, if the fascists are ever deposed.

I know they haven't. It was left up to the public. If an outlet was shady or being caught in pushing lies, people would abandon it. So, there were implicit standards... and those that succeeded complied with that. But it changed. A political stranglehold has taken place. A monopolization of bias.

Because the climate has changed--there are news outlets selling all out propaganda laden with conspiracies and falsehoods and NOTHING is really being done about it. We're ending up with millions of people misinformed, or outright deceived. This is damaging our Republic. SOMETHING needs to be done.

Yes, even the storied NY Times will distort the truth, in subtle ways. And at times, even more obvious. But then you turn to FOX News, and it's horrendous. That outlet has degenerated so badly.
The US gov't has had non-partisan agencies, like BLS. Maybe we need a evaluations, similar to Snopes. /1
