The IRGC has claimed responsibility for striking the US base in Manama, Bahrain
It’s likely that Iran will target desalination plants in US-aligned Gulf states, which could ignite a massive fresh water crisis & inspire anti-govt uprisings in several countries

Bahrain’s Shia majority periodically demonstrates against the minority Sunni regime (2011 & 2013), but is put down either extreme brutality
Censorship not unlike what Israel is enforcing itself is now emplaced in Bahrain in the wake of Iran retaliatory strikes
www.middleeasteye.net/news/war-ira...
For its part, Iran has responded well militarily; Tehran has incorporated decades of watching failed US wars in two of its neighbors, have integrated those valuable learned lessons into its strategic planning, & are atm tactically out-performing the US — absorbing attacks & successfully retaliating
It’s almost impossible to overstate how ill-inspired this attack on Iran was & will continue to be. It has blown US diplomatic credibility by attacking during official talks; & that’s on top of reneging on the JCPOA. Together, those 2 Trump moves alone are catastrophic, permanent damage to US power
The monarchy in Bahrain may (soon?) be deposed. Bahrain is majority Shia, minority Sunni rule. Saudi will attempt to backstop it but a Shia uprising will likely soon topple it. Gulf states that have relied on US security will eventually pivot now with the US security umbrella disastrously exposed.
Massive defense investments in the Gulf have now been destroyed in less than a week
The perception of Gulf govs is now that the US cant/wont defend the states, especially if at the expense of securing Israel, which itself has gone wild now into Lebanon; the few resupplies will keep going to Israel
The outlook for this war for US interests is getting very dark, & it’s accelerating by the day. This is the nightmare scenario, an absolute catastrophe for US power
US hegemony in the Gulf is quickly coming to an end. Israel has entered a death spiral. The Trump admin is doubling down on disaster
The men who ordered & triggered the strike will live with it
Anyone who has misidentified a target, or fired mistakenly on a civilian, carries a burden few others can understand. Some cope with substances, others with redirected focus. But it’s heavy & it’s always there
Politicians skate away free
Israel’s goal is to turn Iran into Syria: collapse the state, ignite a civil war to kill hundreds of thousands in endless cycles of slaughter
This will also create brand new terror groups, incite massive refugee flight — destabilizing politics in Western & Central Europe already moving far right
There is no de-escalation forthcoming
The mission objective is regime and state collapse
“In calls this week to Kurdish minority leaders in Iran and neighboring Iraq, (Trump) offered ‘extensive U.S. aircover’ & other backing for anti-regime Iranian Kurds to take over portions of western Iran”
Day 1: “there will be no boots on the ground”
Day 5: “we might put some boots on the ground”
April: “some SOF boots are on the ground to assist moderate rebels”
July: “ok, some conventional Army boots are gonna be on the ground”
2027: “we’re surging more boots to protect the boots on the ground”
Great question, Bill
Put a bookmark on “When crazy people have nuclear weapons bad things happen.”
That one is gonna be useful much sooner than later, unfortunately
The next genius Israel/Trump idea for turning Iran into war torn Syria will be involving the Baloch as well, which will not only expose the deep Israeli intelligence ties to terrorist groups that Israel has been arming to murder Iranians for decades, but will also incite Pakistani & Afghan gov anger
The Kurds are basically Charlie Brown at this point
General sense among analysts I trust seems to be that Khameini anticipated this was the end and was having a last meal of sorts with his family, expecting soon to be martyred
The symbolism of his death & that of his family — especially his grandchildren — will be immensely impactful among Iranians
Khameini’s martyrdom also infused in the Iranian population a new sense of national purpose after the Revolution’s impact had significantly waned in generations since
We traded analytical predictability & comparative moderation for potentially galvanizing Iranians behind the regime we’re fighting
Killing Khameini may have satisfied neocon blood thirst temporarily, but the real effect of this stupid decision is multi fold:
Khameini was much more moderate than a likely successor; he opposed nuclear weaponization. He was also the known leader; analysts relied on his predictable decision-making
Each day that this war continues, expands, and intensifies brings an even more pronounced possibility of this being for the United States of America a note in the history books which disturbingly echoes Great Britain’s 1956 misguided foray into Suez
Khomeini and Khameini vs MeK
I am reminded of an old joke about fooling the country you’re invading by marching in backwards and telling them that you’re leaving
Aaaand scene.

2002: Curveball
2026: Screwball
Re-litigating the Iraq war in the context of whatever is being waged on Iran now should underline how absent any opposition to this “war” is among establishment media, punditry, & policymakers
All quietly — but undeniably — wanted this. All are cynically waiting for pieces to settle for any comment
Soon.
So incredibly underrated. So good
"The battle is..the main focal point of the 2020 film The Outpost, which was in-turn based on the book The Outpost: An Untold Story of American Valor"
Twenty-seven soldiers were awarded the Purple Heart for wounds sustained in combat
In remote land, American valor was on full display
