why is the entire set uup procss to sew a hem just. the literal worst.
sewing it? fine! enjoyable, even, sometimes.
measuring and folding and etc? please kill me. I long for death.

on the otherhand I went from that hr of "training" to a meeting with my boss, grandboss, and counterpart, and like 75%+ of it was gboss being like U GUYS ARE SO GOOD AT YR JOB. THANK U. LOVE YR WORK. while boss was full parent-of-only kids-not-openly-eating-glue.jpeg
so. swings & roundabouts.
to be clear. this was training specificallly for my department.
my department that does. ops support. the ops support department. we do variations on [tasks] 99% of our time, to support ops. like. all of them.
none of that falls under PM, apprently, lol!! good luck motherfuckers I guess!!! π€‘ππ
anyway chaser to this was we sat through 1hr of "training", got to the Q&A bit, 1st q. was 'when do we use PM / when don't we, bc we mostly do [variations on a task] and that seems excessive? everytime?'
"those aren't projects, that's BAU!"
BRO WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THE LAST HOUR OF MY LIFE THEN
like I understand project management. but also. what the fuck are you TALKING ABOUT, training guy. I don't think the last sentence was actually a sentence, I think you just got a grab bag of Business Words and read them out in the order you pulled them with the occasional 'and' or 'the' for flavour
how is it that every project management training I do via Mandatory Training or w/e, it feels like I understand less about it than I did before I sat through the hour to several hours of lecture.
we're now at the "multiple national/international financial news outlets have 'top [X] movies about financial crisis' as a feature article" point, which, y'know, probably means nothing.
on the other hand, interesting cultural comparative!
π«
oooh, ok, everything I've seen mention that said it was apple only, which made it look like a total nonstarter, but their site actually has both a web and android tab, so ty, I will look into that!
also having looked at a lot of the current 'best RSS readers!' lists...idk. feelsbadman.jpg
I don't want to have to spend hours maintaining the hosting myself! or only have 10 feeds! or only get a mixed firehose of all posts! or bootstrap an android proxy!
which feels like a very low bar, and yet.
yeaaaah; feels like a canary in the mine w/r/t being pushed towards must pay to have... any functionality, tbh.
(Would theoretically pay for a RSS -AI but +the features I want; getting approval for a sub from work for a (work)account instead of just buying my own for my own use will be a PITA tho)
can't self host for Reasons; currently on inoreader buuut AI incursion is making me less than impressed with the idea of staying on them.
recognise I might be looking for a unicorn, at this point π
oh hey, folks here seem likely to have Opinions: what're the current best options for RSS readers in 2025? ideally has web and Android options, actual folders to organise feeds, and isn't ridiculously limited in how many feeds you can follow before paying through the nose; search would be nice.
I survived a regional work call with improv roleplay tasks, surely that means I'm done for the day, right?
could literally see the thought process go 'huh sound. who left their phone on loud > birds?? >why birds?? > WHAT birds??? > oh australian> wait hang on AUSTRALIAN BIRDS > wait hang on TEAMS CALL?? LOUD??
on the one hand, this meeting started literally before dawn.
on the other hand, dawn chorus so loud everyone else heard it over teams, incredibly funny to watch a bunch of US folks experience aussie bird calls for the first time
a photo of report text on a screen - highlighted is the phrase 'the leading australian economics blog, Club Troppo'
*deeply* unserious country
lmao I am very much already on tumblr and have been since. I'm not doing that maths on a friday arvo of a week like this, since pretty sure my blog can now go for its p plates or just about.
slightly different vibe I'm after, but ty.
werid side effect of my job being what it is, my work browser is actually better set up for more convient paywall dodging than my home browser is.
man. I miss having locked accounts. like. anywhere.
sometimes I want to be vaugely anon and also be vaugely public and also, crucially, not be somewhere anyone who knows me in meatspace can read stuff by accident and know it's me posting it.
going to the stupid post office to get my stupid mail because apparently I ceased to exist for the millisecond the postie "attempted" delivery before taking it to the most distant post office possible in the delivery areaπ
fans like for air, or fans like for media/sportsball/etc?
in either case. op drop yr essay, I wish to ponder it. (plz)
no, yeah, it's the fucking worst. keeping all the plates spinning and also *filling* them is like. so fucking hard; you boss is being a massive dick, if an annoyingly common one.
mean. fair, but mean.
(also i had already forgotten so like. π€‘)
oh, yeah. most commonwealth law runs like that, afaik; as long as it's in your area of practise (and your normal fees will be covered/you actually have time to take the case), you're like. obligated to take the case, no matter what - at least for barristers; solicitors (here) can refuse a case.
honestly every time I remember US lawyers don't work on first cab off the rank rules, I go on a whole ass journey of comprehension which I then promptly forget until the next time I have reason to internalise that fact.
haha gotta say. the colour of the light rn makes me. mmmm not optimistic about the rest of summer, we'll say.
why is it that apparently what we as a country have decided that, in the absence of specifically xmas dirges, any dirge will do?
radio has played literally nothing but Xmas carol or dirge (nonspecific) this entire uber ride. this is not the first, nor do I expect it to be the last time it happens
so like, we brought some stuff from Suk (huge rec, btw, if you haven't already seen misha's rec), and it is all fantastic!
but I am finding one(1) problem with the stuff we brought. or "problem", maybe, is the better phrasing.
I keep losing my phone in the pockets. because they are *so* big.
uh, 2015 there was some not great (slow, iirc, more than actively malicious) reaction to... an edgelord title (?) and maybe some vaugely bad calls that were walked back re: queer works (?) about ~2019?
otoh, explicit 'must tag AI generated work' and 'can't sell primarily AI "made" work' policies.
*the one place that does is Coober Pedy/Umoona, but I'm...not really sure you can call it a basement when the whole damn house is underground to avoid the heat.
Attics also not a huge thing - no need for steep roof pitch down south, and up north it's too hot to go into the roof for 3/4 of the year
