Happy #humpday Here are a few favourite Humpback Whale images😍🐋 From being almost wiped out, Humpbacks have been returning to the Salish Sea in increasing numbers over the last 10-15 years🥰 This 'Humpback Comeback" was started in 1996 by a Whale known as 'Big Mama'😍

Happy #humpday😊 The humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) has the longest pectoral fins of any cetacean. These massive, wing-like appendages can reach up to 16 feet (5 meters) in length, which is about one-third of the whale's total body size.

Today we celebrate World Whale Day🎉 Although at Five Star we believe every day is a celebration of Whales😍
It is important we continue to help protect and save Whales and our precious marine environment.

Happy #humpday 😊 Humpback whale pectoral fins are up to one-third their body length🐋 Their unique size and shape, earned them the scientific name Megaptera (big-winged), and the tubercles (bumps) on the edges reduce drag for smoother movement, much like golf ball dimples🥰
#humpbackwhale #MarineLife
Happy #wildlifemonday 😊 Today we are featuring the Grey Whale, one of the rarer whales we encounter on our tours.
#greywhale
#tgif 😊 We are jumping for joy, just like this Orca, that the weekend is almost here😍 Did you know to breach an Orca has to reach a speed over 20mph but can acheive that with just 2-3 flicks of their tail🥰
#orca #MarineLife
Happy #humpday 😊 This video was taken last spring and features 'Big Mama' and her Calf, the 8th she has brought to the Salish Sea🐋😍 Most Humpbacks have already returned to their winter breeding grounds in Hawaii or Mexico, but the odd whale is still being sighted in the Salish Sea🌊
#humpbackwhale
Happy #wildlifemonday 😊 Today we are featuring the Harbor Seal, a common sight on any of our tours😍
#harborseal #MarineLife
Interesting new research on Harbor Seal juvenile Salmon predation. Pinnipeds, such as Harbor Seals, also predate on many Salmon Predators.
#harborseal
Happy #throwbackthursday 😊 Here is a whale of a tail. So in the fall of 2024, in particular in the later stages of December, we encountered BCZ0131 “Gnarly” on a number of occassions.
Gnarly’s tail has not always been like this, earlier DFO pictures showed the tail was normal.....
#humpbackwhale
Happy #humpday 😊 In this video you can clearly see the Humpback expand its ventral pleats as it feeds. Humpback whale ventral pleats are accordion-like grooves running from their jaw to their belly that expand dramatically to engulf huge volumes of water and prey.
#humpbackwhale #MarineLife
Happy #tailtuesday 😊 Here is the tail fluke of a young Orca that is swimming upside down in the water😍 We love this image as it shows how acrobatic Orcas are🥰
