Even when the lies were so blatantly see-through that a fucking pre-teen could tell they were using "weapons of mass destruction" as a smokescreen, there were kids in my class who would parrot the same bullshit word-for-word without a hint of irony.
Even had a tell a kid why we can't just use nukes
I grew up with a lot of kids with hateful parents. People who genuinely thought that terror could be beaten. That it was a tangible enemy.
A lot of those kids did not turn out okay. I even remember a particular instance of someone getting a swastika carved into his locker "as a joke".
There was a week of people being really nice to one another. And then years of racism, xenophobia, and hatred that finally had an excuse to latch onto something even slightly tangible. Suffering, and, well. You know the rest.
I was in fourth grade at the time. I never actually saw the footage, but I remember our teachers telling us to get into the lunch hall and hide under tables until our parents came to pick us up. Honestly thought our school was getting shot up/bombed before I was told what actually happened.
If for no other reason than it lets me unironically put words in my game like "thurible" and "matrosov"
