Periodic reminder that "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks" is one of the best books I've ever read and if you haven't yet, go and grab a copy to learn about this remarkable and deeply ethically-challenging story www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
The #Samurai exhibition at the British Museum is really good. Fascinating objects with good curation, the right length and a strong balance between telling a story and shattering some myths
βKane reached 500 goals in 743 appearances for club and country.
That means he got to the milestone quicker than Portugal legend Cristiano Ronaldo, who in 2015 hit his 500th goal on his 753rd game in professional football.β
Kane is incredible, and serially underrated

And now he has gone #COYS
He needs to go #COYS
I only have one, relatively minor, quibble (I won't say as it is kind of a spoiler). But just the one. It's superb TV. Everyone involved should be very proud. Jack Thorne continues to be the writer with the Midas touch (2/2)
Cripes... the new BBC adaptation of #LordOfTheFlies is exceptional. A brilliant telling of this darkest and most timelessly-relevant of tales, with strong performances from the young cast, some daring, haunting camerawork and absolutely no shying away from the visceral violence of the material (1/2)
For a physics and philosophy graduate could there be better theatrical news?! (Helps that it is also an excellent play and it looks like they are putting together a stellar cast) #anotherdraft www.hampsteadtheatre.com/whats-on/202...
Very interesting (as always) data from The Taub Center in Israel www.taubcenter.org.il/en/states/20.... One stat that really stood out - in 2025 Israel will have had the lowest population growth % in its entire history, and also the highest number of emigrants (with 2026 possibly having even more)
After 843 days, the hostage nightmare is finally, it seems, over
#Hamnet - wow what a film. Absolutely stunning acting from Mescal and, especially, Buckley. Yes itβs melodramatic to the point of emotional manipulation but isnβt it for film to put in pictures and sounds the feelings that make us all human?
Luke Littler⦠wow
Whilst broadly I think #StrangerThings stuck the landing, and it remains a wonderful story told with emotion and awesome action, ultimately it could have been ever better with a bit more narrative bravery. Also the last hour is Return of the King-esque and that isn't a compliment
Happy new year from Colindale!
At #LimmudFestival2025 for until Wednesday. Shabbat shalom everyone!
A Christmas miracle! After just shy of 115 hours (!), I have finished the βtrue endingβ of the masterpiece that is Hollow Knight: Silksong
Mum - amazingly - managed to make her Yuzu tree fruit this year, so we tried a Yuzu Lychee Martini for the Christmas cocktail this year. I can confirm itβs bloody delicious
Merry Christmas!
Agree with this. The best thing I watched on TV this year and on so many levels an absolute masterpiece www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio...
5) the kids are generally less annoying and given more agency in this film, which is good
6) about two-thirds of the way through they could have been very narratively-bold but chicken out. A shame
7) visually Pandora remains unmatched. Is there a better-looking film?
8) overall itβs enjoyable

Some thoughts on the new Avatar film:
1) yes it far, far too long
2) yes the action scenes are becoming a bit samey
3) the new fire tribe are cool baddies
4) the premise of the world - an interventionist god exists and will save the Navi if their faith is strong enough - remains fascinating

Chag Hanukkah Sameach, on this day of awful tragedy in Sydney
In a little more than two months, we have had the worst day for British Jewry and the worst day for Australian Jewry. Jews must - MUST - be safe to pray in our synagogues and celebrate in the public realm. This isn't a "nice to have". It's a basic pre-condition for our liberal democratic societies
