On top of everything, people who are scared of trans women competing in sports are just ignorant. Trans women are no more athletic than cis women after one or two years of hormone therapy. Riley Gaines was defeated by three other cis women. She needs a new excuse for her mediocrity. 9/10
It’s not easy for waffling, thumb-twiddling center-lefts to defend trans athletes. They are such a small group of people that center-lefts see them as a worthy sacrifice for their power. But people of integrity never need to dispose of anyone in order to make a difference. 8/10
You cannot be a progressive if you throw ANY marginalized and vulnerable groups under the bus. Because fascism doesn’t just stop at the most vulnerable. It demands more and more subjugation from more and more groups of people. 7/10
You can absolutely count on it, if a Democrat throws trans athletes under the bus, it’s a slippery slope to other conservative stances. The most notable example is Gavin Newsom. He punched down on trans people and homeless people. And before we knew it, he was opposing a billionaire tax. 6/10
I believe it was Heather Cox Richardson who said this. Our first obstacle will be Trump. Our second, J.D. Vance. And our third, do-nothing MAGA-lite Democrats. 5/10
Although the pendulum is swinging left, and it’s doing so like a bullet train, we’re not quite there yet. Fascist ideology is still normalized in most of the pillars of support to Trump. That means that some Democrats will fawn and attempt to be “middle-of-the-road” to appeal to conservatives. 4/10
Worst of all, trans athletes are so exceedingly rare. It’s easy to demonize someone you don’t meet. It’s NOT easy to lie about gas and grocery prices when Americans see them multiple times a day. That’s why trans athletes are such an easy bugaboo for republicans to weaponize. 3/10
Trans athletes have been a main scapegoat for conservatives. This is an issue that will immediately out the most base instincts in voters and it’s a way for republicans to obfuscate their responsibility to make life more affordable for their constituents. 2/10
It’s pretty self-explanatory. If I want to know if a primary candidate is worth my vote, I assess their position on trans athletes. If their position is anything other than “trans athletes should be able to compete”, my support will be going to another candidate. 1/10
