The Epstein Files Transparency Act passed the House by a vote of 427-1. The lone no vote was from Rep. Clay Higgins (R–La.), who wrote: “If enacted in its current form, this type of broad reveal of criminal investigative files, released to a rabid media, will absolutely result in innocent people being hurt." Can anyone honestly say that he was wrong? I cannot. Jeffrey Epstein was a monster, and we are well rid of him. But these files by their nature contain rumors and outright falsehoods—because they are investigatory records, not established facts. We are well on our way to smearing as a pedophile anyone who had some connection to Epstein, no matter how incidental or irrelevant.
