Just got proper info with reliable sources from my captain; the fires were sugar cane, but they were not controlled burns. It was an accident. Figured I'd give you more honest information

Excess cane stalk. From what I was told, it's mostly the used plant matter left after the pressing process. I could've been misinformed though, lots of guys out here are excellent at yapping nonsense but making it sound believable lol

Those were controlled sugar cane burns. It's been really wet in southern Louisiana, so a lot of sugar mills are burning excess
