I hurt my own feelings twice in 24 hours when my brain decided to interpret compliments ("I'm a person people want to work with" and "when this becomes a book or series of articles") as insults ("I'm a personality hire" and "my diss won't make a good book").

Any tips on how to make that stop? 😅

The number one thing I've learned from my dissertation is that I have no idea what preposition to use at least 30% of the time.

I did stop for about an hour when I hit the crying stage and just took a break because honestly? I'm not gonna write anything academic worth reading through literal tears 😂

My final draft is due Thursday and, when I've been looking at it for too long, I'm convinced I've made it worse in my editing 🫠

My favorite project from my PhD coursework was a spoken word album I wrote and produced in conjunction with a local Black poetry collective. There's room for creativity! Mine just didn't show up in my diss 😅

I imagine my sister will relatively rapidly regret her request lol. But it was still a nice thought.

I've got a line on a developmental editor and maybe a press, so I'm hoping the book won't take too long after the diss. But I've got a job at a teaching college and I'll be pouring a lot into developing courses for a while.

Absolutely will do! (It'll likely be out of vogue by then though. I've been told I should embargo the work for a while.)

I wrote a chapter on the satanic panic any why the way we talk about it is wrong lol.

Actual feedback from my advisor on a dissertation chapter: "Imagine here that you are in drag as Jonathan Z. Smith." 😂

It has taken me two hours and two phonecalls to a colleague to write two summary paragraphs for this chapter.

I'm happy with the work I'm doing, but my brain is FATIGUED.
