So far every truly weird performance error I've gotten during the development of this engine has come down to "javascript does something deeply baffling, in a way that is clearly communicated in the MDN documentation, and it just expects you to do something else"

Closed communities give us a bunch of benefits, especially for marginalised communities - being able to be open and explore in a safe space is vital.

But closed communities, like Discord, are increasingly used for frameworks - does that information become completely lost over time?

How on earth does this get back to tech?

The move away from publicly accessible (and crawlable/indexable) forums towards platforms like Discord has benefits but it hides information.
In 20 years time nobody is going to be able to stumble across a ridiculous niche joke made in a Discord

Now, what I love most about this, is that Prof. McGinty is still going strong. I stumbled across a 20 year old forum post about the infamous "Berkshire Blue" Amanita.

The fact that this niche nerdy jokery has been going on for over 100 years is beautiful to me

One thing that Lloyd hated was how quickly people would try to declare a new species based on a few dried specimens brought back from an exhibition.
And so, obviously, Professor McGinty was all about that - boldly declaring something a new species as an act of satire

To this day the Lloyd Library and Museum is brimming with works on botany, medicinal plants and natural history.

Lloyd also invented a fictional mycologist - Professor McGinty - who he would use to mock or lampoon things in the field he disagreed with

This is a slightly rambling story about a Victorian mycologist which I *promise* circles back around to tech

Curtis Gates Lloyd was a fascinating guy (rather a lot of mycologists through history seem to be) and Lloyd was a big deal in the world of mushrooms.
