I think I saw him years ago. Thanks!
I think I saw him years ago. Thanks!
Oh cool, didnโt realize they were more recent. You all donโt have any other secret mounted skeletons outside the dinosaur exhibit, do you?
My follow up was going to be how do you age a turtle, but you beat me to it
awesome, thank you!
Trio of sea turtle casts suspended by a window. Not especially big.
@diplotomodon.bsky.social @mosasaurologist.bsky.social Morning gents, either of you know who these guys at ANSP are?
Thatโs the one. I wonder why they shot there?
thanks!
Stan the T. rex cast skeleton under dramatic blue light. Museum gallery visible beyond through a glass barrier with text on it
Triceratops skull under dramatic blue light from a low angle. Museum gallery with skylight and columns behind
(Inaccurate) Cryolophosaurus cast skeleton under dramatic blue blue light. Ornate railing visible behind
I think this is the Royal Belgian Institute at the end of The Dinosaurs, right? Can anyone confirm?
It was almost like Scott was there, 11/10 auctioneering
I still don't care for the visual style but the latter two episodes were immensely more watchable with less frenetic editing.
I'm still thinking about something @paleeoguy.bsky.social said at PaleoFest that I hadn't heard articulated quite that way before:
A fossil and its matrix are both parts of an ancient ecosystem. Preparing out the fossil means destroying one part to access the other.
I feel far too seen by this one
Black jeep with hard top shell partially lifted off
Top completely removed, doors and tailgate open
Happy switching to the soft top (while pretending not to see the forecast for next weekend) day for all chicagoland jeeps!
Christmas tree ornament-like clear orb with opening. Thereโs a little bedding inside and a gecko curled up asleep. Itโs hanging in a larger terrarium
This crested gecko has a little sleeping orb and itโs the cutest thing Iโve ever seen
I love this. ๐ Not every piece of history you might find needs to be collected, inspected, tagged, and put in a museum/collection.
The best reasons to disturb something are either because it's in imminent danger of being destroyed, or because it can tell us something new about the past.
Let's say...not too serious, and has an actual conclusion?
I mean, it's possible my brain is just working slowly.
I try to appreciate the work and craft put into everything, but this one just isnโt for me.
To elaborate, I donโt know whatโs happening in this dinosaur show because thereโs seemingly no spatial or temporal continuity between shots. The art direction is trying to do stylized and hyper real at the same time, and so does both badly. Nothing moves like an actual animal affected by gravity.
Say more?
Kinda annoyed at you all for convincing me to buy a month of netflix to watch this weaksauce dinosaur show. At least thereโs a new Taylor Tomlinson specialโฆ
Jealous of all of you at Paleofest today, but I'll be there tomorrow! โฎ๏ธ๐ฆ
I've been listening to an audiobook about airships (zeppelins, dirigibles, or blimps, depending on locale), and how they NEVER really worked, but governments had invested so much in them that they were determined to MAKE them work, wasting fortunes & years & lives
This post is not about airships
This is what I want done with my skellybones when Iโm done with them.
Is this one all CGI dinosaurs or is it secretly a decent wildlife show like LOOP?
Well itโs very pretty
Itโs a fish-catching adaptation
I spoke to @rachaelhfunnell.bsky.social yesterday about making synthetic T. rex breath for Sueโs exhibit!

Any idea why the skull is that color?!
BABY DUCKBILL: Steve just finished cleaning this super cute jaw, with rows of tiny teeth! This matches another jaw, femur, and vertebrae that we collected from the same site. A baby dino skeleton is coming out!
