While this is incredibly cool and fascinating, I think it also shows one of the reasons developers are wary of fans obtaining development builds, you never know what might be left in a file. The last thing anyone wants is personal information like a phone number to a debug manager to leak.

The model itself was located in \\nico-lx\shimooki\i1.lwo

This tracks, we know Shimooki-san was in charge of that part of the map.

For I1_sk:

The textures were in

N:\data\library\texture\

and were also all .TM2.

N:\data appears in other places and I'm fairly certain is *the* development repository. Library might refer to the parts library, which is odd cause this model isn't made using that.

The model location is

/mnt/emc2/nicoteam/master/data/nico-jp/reconv/seamlessmodel/i7.lwo

The 'mnt' folder is seen elsewhere, I think it might mean management because some PC logging tools were located there too.

EMC2 I have no idea what could be, it seemingly references E = MC^2???

Jun Tsubuku was a collision specialist, so maybe when searching for a copy of old I7 the team found them in Tsubuku-san's personal folder. I don't know what 'reconv' means but might be reconvert?

Because of this, the files have handy information for us in them, showing working directory paths and the likes.

I1_sk and the I7_sk model found in some early builds actually crash the game when attempting to load them, because they use an outdated format. This is presumably because these were older models used to quickly replace later cut boss arenas: Sanctuary and Labyrinth respectively.

I didn't expect to have so much to talk about 忍び寄る影〜巨像との戦い〜 (Creeping Shadow 〜Battle with the Colossus〜) but wow I've written like 3 times the amount I have for other tracks.

That name really does raise a lot of questions.

Giving this more thought and it’s even more crazy than I thought. What do they mean by ‘cooked meat’? Cause I’d say like 90% of sandwiches with meat are using cured meats like hams rather than cooked ones.

13.03.2026 08:12 👍 4 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0

Apparently the Department of Agriculture in the US requires a sandwich to have at least "35% cooked meat" to be considered a sandwich??? Absolute insanity.

Trying to say a salad sandwich or an egg salad sandwich isn't a sandwich is insane.

I should probably try making kitsune udon too lmao

With how often I'm having kake udon for lunch I should probably be brave and learn to make the noodles from scratch. Would be fun I think. (And save money if I make in bulk ahaha)

I know some of the colossi (and be extension, their arenas) had (very) rough setting/backstory outlines in 2004 but whether release Evis and the F8 version of Sanctuary received such treatment is unknown to me. Seems the kind of thing they wouldn't have time for after the reduction.

It's also possible their aggressive temperament developed due to being used to contain Dormin.

That being said, if Evis wasn't always aggressive I question the rationale for the aisles and barriers being constructed in the first place.

Imagine being a member of the poor construction crew who had to dig aisles and install barriers in Sanctuary while constantly having pulse missiles fired at them by Evis.

I hope they received hazard pay.

It's worth noting it seems the Worm we have images of is actually the second design. There's textures listed that suggest it had an earlier design that involved shooting it with the bow.

I should clarify I have no idea what the "flower bulb-like" base of Worm looked like. I just drew a very rough flower bulb-ish shape. I assume it had fur on it cause I can't imagine how else you'd hurt it.

My current understand of Worm's fight. The boss was in a pit of quicksand that would pull Wander in (like an antlion larva).

The weak point was on the base submerged in the sand.

By getting close the boss would come out to grab Wander (like a bobbit worm)

Draw it out to expose the base.

This caption describing the weak point which isn't even remotely visible in the image is hilarious.

"The flower bulb-like section was its weak point."

It's strange to realize that despite these two images we probably haven't seen like half of Worm's body.

Most notably Roc's arena is visible on the right side of the screen in the one at the event as the player is riding down to Snake's arena from E5.

TGS RAW IGN FOOTAGE VS NICO DVD "TGS FOOTAGE" COMPARISON - SOTC YouTube video by ASapphicKitsune

For those of you who don't know. The "TGS 2004" trailer included in the NICO DVD is actually a later revision with a few shots changed. Thankfully IGN recorded the TGS screen.

I have a video showing the two side-by-side.

I've purchased a copy of ファミ通WaveDVD's DVD from December 2004, which covers TGS2004 including SOTC. Hopefully it has the original early version of the trailer shown at the event rather than the one from the NICO DVD.

Okay looking at an early leaked picture of Roc's stage they actually did kind of do this, the crater used to be way deeper and the tower was on a really steep hill in the center.

I must admit part of me is a little confused why they didn't compromise by simplifying the field to be flat, even if it's a lot less interesting than an impact crater. Maybe Roc had some other issues we don't know about.
