A miserable little pile of secrets
2. The Deep Blue team revised their code in between rounds and didn't share their code with Kasparov's team, both very much against the rules in modern John Henry-style games. So the first defeat of a human world champion without an asterisk didn't happen until 2006 (Kramnik vs. Deep Fritz).
Two Deep Blue facts I wish were better circulated:
1. Chess turns out to be especially solvable by computers: every game begins the same way and gets simpler as it goes (though the decisions become more consequential). Human players still hold their heads up in Go, where the board starts empty.
Afaik Max wants to charge extra for their plugin that saves a patch for RPI (RNBO)...for PD:

Speaking more generally though my answer for RPis is "attach a camera to it and write an openFrameworks app"
The 3 (not 3+) happens to occupy just the right historical spot in the lineup to run all RPi OSes, from oldest to newest. This makes it afaik the fastest RPi that can talk to some interesting older hardware, for example Kinect clones.

Happy Gary Retrograde everyone!
The next two weeks are the only two weeks out of the year when Gary Numan is older than Gary Oldman

I am getting *very* close to getting this thing working! There were some optical bits missing, which, miraculously I was able to purchase, and I just won my fight with a very seized up fan motor.
NEW ANALYSIS: UK emissions fell 2.4% in 2025 as coal fell to a 400-year low. Incredibly, we used less coal last year than than in 1600, when Queen Elizabeth I was on the throne and Shakespeare was writing Hamlet.

Trees are freaks of nature. They grow a hundred feet tall by eating sunlight and air and weβre all just here pretending this is normal.

We probably need to respond the way the 1.0-ers did, avoiding proprietary gear and building sustainably on commodity tech. The '90s backronym for this approach, conjuring a cozy place to spend the VR winter, was CAVE ("CAVE Automatic Virtual Environment"--recursive, which was the style at the time)
imo VR 2.0 seems to be on the same trajectory as 1.0...~20% of people hate stereoscopy (faking 3D by showing each eye a different image; your eyes focus "wrong" for the depth of the illusory object)...so unless headsets that allow natural stereopsis get much cheaper, VR can't be a mass market medium
Making an ActionScript 3.0 game for the @Newgrounds Flash Forward jam?
Well, I have some good news for you! We finally launched a modern Newgrounds.io library for AS3!

I suspect we'll discover that it's actually about fifty separate mechanisms running at the same time, interacting in a gloriously complex dance. LLMs have worked out how to be one or two of those.

Second-best ever personal experience watching a Toronto movie theatre in a Toronto movie theatre. Permanent first place has to be the rapturous applause when we collectively realize Mark Strong is going to walk into the Scotiabank in Kick-Ass (2010), while we are watching Kick-Ass at the Scotiabank
What's remarkable now that I think about it is, the pattern holds regardless of whether they're siblings from the same litter or met as adult cats. How do they coordinate this, Rock Paper Scissors?
