Luckily, there are enough unflattering photos of Pete Hegseth on Getty Images to last a lifetime
A special prize to anyone who protests about animals on banknotes *WHILE USING AN ANIMAL TO REPRESENT THE MYTHICAL GREATNESS OF THE NATIONAL CHARACTER*
….so I read this the first several times as “the plants and the children are all playing the Pokémon game” - and then picture human children and grass type Pokémon (Bellflower, the sun flower guy, etc)
let’s hear it for the semicolon; such a wonderfully underrated symbol
Oh no I fell down a further rabbit hole and what a piece of shit her father was
The 2025-2026 feeling of “checking back into the news after an hour or two and he is STILL FUCKING TALKING” (I need to go to bed, I have a train in the morning , but I needed to note this )
This puts me at 10 people released. I filed my 1st habeas petition 29 days ago. I am an incredibly small-time, nobody lawyer who knew nothing about immigration law the day I submitted that case. I barely know any more today. I had never sued the federal government and now I've beaten them 10 times.
Or “Stain-Release Your Burdens”, rather
Release Your (Stain) Burdens?
And “the content churn means “things that annoy me” is unfortunately good feed for the maw”
Jeeez this awful
I mean, it’s amazing how nice people are to me over here when I’m pleasant , treat service workers nicely, and don’t actively cape for fascists
Weird that protesters aren't filling the streets when the streets are being bombed and the sky is black at noon
These people are, to be blunt, substantially less intelligent than they believe they are.
love how we killed the old, frail anti-nuke ayatollah just to have him replaced with his young, healthy son who wants nukes and who just had his father, mother, wife, and child murdered on the same day by his mortal enemy. surely this will bring peace to the region
Sometimes it unnerves folks in a professional context for me, I think , but the people who matter both laugh and value it
I love that other people come up with crossover metaphors that way I do
…no side is the “good guys”, and more likely than not, nobody wins; everyone loses.
Clearly this would be the First World War not the second
If you think trump is risking “world war 3” here as bad and as transnational as it is/gonna get, if I had to analogize it to a world war, I would absolutely not compare it to the second. We are part of a collapsing empire starting bloodbaths for brain dead mad king reasons where…
Fun to be both an Informed LLM Hater / Skeptic and a librarian, where I feel like I need to be reliably informed both as an ethic and to help my users. BUT, as the latter this is like the 3rd thing in my lifetime we’re “getting replaced” by. (And the roller coaster ride of “satisficing”.)
Fucking hate this.
This is a pretty ancient concept in warfare: there's many cases of actions that are technically admissible on the battlefield (even in our post-Geneva Conventions world), but to do them will make you look like a real dishonorable shitfuck. Of course, they are not infrequently done anyway.
Regarding the U.S. sinking that Iranian warship: when you're trying to describe an act that (probably) isn't an actual war crime, but DOES feel slimy, I think the word you're looking for is "honor."
This is the nice thing about traveling this week as I have done a couple years in a row, one less hour I have to stay up before sleeping after the 8 hour flight that gets in to EWR late afternoon
There is a legal provision in immigration law that someone married to a US citizen can stay in the US while there visa is pending. Immigration officials have long recognized it to allow residency during the wait time. The DHS has just stopped following this part of the law.
Desk job and gym membership was mostly the ideal dude life back in the Roman Empire too, as I understand it? Get off the frontier, find a nice granary job
Anyway, the traditional "way things were" so beloved by reactionaries was largely made up by some terrible 19th century hacks who even then couldn't ever hammer all the old stories enough to fit into their bullshit racist project.
The past is, blessedly, too goddamn complicated for that.
