When you were a contestant @kenjennings.bsky.social, do you remember any of those post-game convos with Trebek? Do any of them particularly stand out?
Everything about this video made me happy, especially the earrings
I used to love shopping at Target. Too bad they don't exist anymore. Gone the way of Blockbuster.
Gonna be paying my loans in bottle caps
With what the pandemic was like and how much the wealthy just hate us, if we were living in a nuclear apocalypse, they would still figure out how to get you that Mohela bill
Manifesting!!!
I hope they don't hack student aid and get rid of everyone's loan debt. That would cause a lot of chaos π
In the middle of my advising spiel, the baby in my student's lap hung up the zoom ππ
I so agree that it's extremely disheartening to not have ND world elders to look up to, especially as a female academic. I do feel lucky to be living in a time with so many brilliant peers who are my kin and inspiration β€οΈ
"All these neurodivergents need to remember they are shit." -Uta Frith I guess
Also, her claim that all the new diagnoses are creating "noise" in the data feels like she wants to cherry-pick data that supports her preferred theories and is not supported by the fact the majority of new diagnoses are women who are still underrepresented in research
Credit to @ka81.bsky.social who previously made me aware of how low UK diagnosis rates are!
which is rich from someone who claims we now lack scientific rigor. Additionally, Uta lives in the UK where the rate of autism diagnosis is 1 in 100. It's severely underdiagnosed (not over diagnosed) there because of lack of NHS resources. 2/2
Some researchers and medical professionals have not gotten past Lovaas' concept that autistics are only people in the "physical sense" with no interiority, so if autistics express their internal experiences, they are not actually autistic. That's dehumanizing and circular logic, 1/2 π§΅
Seriously, that person's comment was so incredibly, ridiculously racism and ignorant. The irony is that every example they gave actually disproved their point because racial bias impacts the potential medical outcome for all of those
I'm working on an essay that is somewhat related to this, and here's hoping Ought accepts it. π€
Also, some med professionals are just invested in gatekeeping the diagnosis because it benefits them in various ways and plays into their bias. 2/2
This feels like playing into a scarcity mindset that there is only so much to go around of the very limited amount of support and accommodations allistics are willing to give us. It's a lack of imagination when we could be dreaming of and building a more accessible world. 1/2 π§΅
Me a Millennial flirting back: "I only saw Goldmember in theaters. I rented the rest at Blockbuster." π
Screenshot from the second JJ Abrams βStar Trekβ reboot with the new actor playing the villain Khan scowling and declaring βYou should have let me sleep.β
Day 2 of Daylight Saving Time:
its bullshit that i can feel bad and then after a snack, a shower, moisturizing, going outside, getting hydrated, doing arts and crafts and taking my meds i feel better. that shit took so fucking long i probably would have felt better anyway
Wait, Keke "I'm sorry to this man" Palmer is in a TV show base on Tom Hanks' the 'Burbs? This is a must watch π
Several years ago, I was buying shoes at Payless. They started asking me for my phone number, email, zip code. Finally, they asked me for my entire mailing address. Why do they need all that info? I'm buying $19.99 sneakers, not a gun. I was considering just walking away from the register
Women with sharp teeth are too dangerous. I guess we need to bite more doctors/dentists to warn them not to mess with us
I think that's a great question! @autisticadvocacy.org was anyone affiliated with you approached about joining the I-ACC?
This is actually such a good reminder for me because I'm working on an essay and I touch on some of the history of the autism diagnosis, but I forgot to mention Sukhareva and she's actually really important in terms of the point I'm making around bias and politics involved in diagnosis
Spaghetti is a power bottom, manicotti is a top, and macaroni is vers.
I waited until I'd seen The Bride to read this, and your review is absolutely beautiful. Now, all I can think about is how much I want to see the film again.
It really is interesting as a post-me-too movie commenting on "male loneliness" and how we are expected to sacrifice our wants, needs, and lives to fix what's broken in them.
