The House: MPs agree infrastructure debate should be politics free
Except this is impossible when three parties in Government are politically and ideologically opposed to delivering sustainable infrastructure with value for money and addressing the requirements for the future. Billions on roads ain't doing the job. It's political.
I hope it’s not too brutal.
Happy to report that F appeared to be having fun! (Who wouldn’t? That music is instantly foot-tapping infectiously good fun stuff!)
That’s so exciting!
Shameful. Absolutely shameful billing it as a 'Summit' with 0 Indigenous scientists speaking. Colonised as.

I should have included a warning: once you start playing, Ravelry is a massive time-sink!
Here’s a link to one of my saved Ravelry searches. You’ll see I’ve used lots of filters to look for berets and beanies in fingering/4ply and using lace or cable stitches. Have a play with the filters; I’m sure you’ll find something that works for you.

A black and white section plate from Tge False Rose by Jakob Wegelius, featuring a pearl diver in an old-fashioned heavy diving suit and helmet. In one hand the diver holds an oyster shell, in the other is a cable tied to a wire basket containing more oysters. The foreground is filled with various seaweeds and a very handsome octopus. Several sharks swim in the background.
Lost track of time and finished The False Rose at a stupidly late hour: what an excellent adventure! Also spent time with Irena Rey and her translators. Plot is thickening.
Excellent news!
Ha! Snap!
Thank you! I’m looking forward to wearing it.
A WIP (work in progress) on a WGB (weathered garden bench): one-and-a-half hand/wrist/arm warmers, knitted in a fuzzy grey yarn.
🇳🇿🧶and part-finished in February: a pair of hand warmers in alpaca-merino. Part-finished as in I completed one, which I’d started in August of last year, and am now half-way through the second.
She’s a frilly super nova!
The Cozi is a most delicious shade of chocolate brown: think cake, rye bread, really good compost and 95% chocolate. I want to eat it.
A shawl in pinky-beige and deep chocolate brown is draped over a weathered garden bench. That rampant fern is again poking its way into the picture.
🇳🇿🧶also finished in February. At 11:55pm on 28 February, to be precise. A Cosmic Girl shawl by Nadia Crétin-Leschennes. Worked in Bicycle merino from Stephen West and Zealana Cozi. #FinishItFebruary #shopthestash
I love her books! And I still enjoy a good alternative history.
Shades of Joan Aitken and, based on reviews, a touch of The Threepenny Opera.
I also found time to dive back into the Polish forests either the missing Irena Rey and her translators.
The cover of The Fslse Rose by Jakob Wegelius. Featuring feathers and carnations, an octopod and a fish, a steamer and a sailing ship. In the centre, above the title is a small illustration of a gorilla in engineer overalls with her friend and employer Henry Koskela. The pair are shackled together. The script and style are evocative of 19century publishing conventions.
An illustration from the character list of The false rose. This one features the Razor Queen. She wears a hat and a frilled dress. Her hair is in ringlets and her eyes are wild and staring. Clutching an open razor, she stands in a street lit by two street lamps and the full moon. I’d avoid her, if I were you.
Another illustration from The False Rose. This is a portrait of Florenza Tarantello who is wanted, dead or alive! She is a striking figure, dressed simply with a scarf draped around her head and neck, a rifle over her shoulder and a bandolier across her chest. A knife is tucked into her belt.
A portrait of Sally Jones, narrator of The False Rose. She’s standing at a work bench, a spanner tucked into her chest pocket, repairing an Underwood typewriter.
I found a wonderful children’s book yesterday: The False Rose by Jakob Wegelius ( trans. Peter Graves). Sequel to The Murderer’s Ape it follows the adventures of talented marine engineer Sally Jones (who happens to be a gorilla). Do you know it, @madhmstr.bsky.social ?
