By declaring their solidarity with "Buchladen zur schwankenden Weltkugel" (Berlin), "Rote Straße" (Göttingen) and "Golden Shop" (Bremen), those who were tasked to accept a gift by the Minister, refused to play the role in which they were cast.

I light of this outpour of solidarity, the Cultural Minister cancelled the ceremony! The offical reasoning: "In such a context, it seems hardly possible to give the award winners the recognition they deserve." The opposite is true: it is #Weimer who would no longer be able to act as the gift-giver.
Finally, those nominated promised to invite the three book stores on their own and throw their own party ... "(We) don't want to let anything spoil our party and already have a few ideas on how we can make that happen..." they announced...

🧵I keep reading that men go to war or that one island because of their desire. But in order to desire, you have to accept that you lack. These men think they (should) have everything, but feel it’s not enough. Having to have possession over humans and wielding objects to destroy them is jouissance.
I am thinking how much faster the entire #asylum system would be if states would concentrate on how individuals are likely to be classified by the states to which they are intended to be send (back) to, rather than on trying to prove who they "are" and whether the documents they show are authentic..
Jouissance is a term #Lacan sets apart from need, demand and desire. Need refers to the sheer biological necessity (eg. humans need food), demand refers to want (e.g. “I want chocolate!”) and desire is what you get when you subtract need from demand.

Desire, for #Lacan is always the Other’s desire. It is what keeps us entwined beings, guessing what it is the other wants from me. Needs and demands are satisfiable, desire is not. It should not be, it is what keeps us alive. There would be no love without desire: to give what one does not have!
Jouissance, however, is not concerned with others as intersubjective partners or opponents. It is only concerned with breaking barriers and going beyond limits. It is not perverse or sadistic per se (these are clinical categories), but is rather akin to Das Ding that #Freud established.
