Theyβre strongly flavored but they go really well with the beet root oddly enough π

I love love beets. I like the red ones the best but husband likes the yellow so Iβm growing both!
Basically yup. So I separated the stems and leaves. SautΓ©ed a bit of onion and garlic then cooked the stems with a little salt and water (covered) adding the leaves in a few minutes later
Yesterday I washed and chopped up a couple garden beets and their greens outside and had both for dinner. π½οΈ π±π«
All the beets and the greens got eaten π
I then planted more seeds so I can keep enjoying them as long as theyβll keep growing for me #zone10 #vegetable #gardening
This one in particular is still going strong! Wish they all got the same start he did :D πͺπ±π₯¬
The other guys in the photo are finger lime (beside the pumpkin) and mango. Both of those seem to be doing well here!
The truth is in the fruit so tbd

Repotted my little big man (blue Java banana) today.
The cavendish we planted in ground died back (visible here behind the Java) so I want to see if there is any difference leaving him potted long-term because ..so far so good.

Ugh yeah I have some sprouts seemingly alive but not moving an ounce. but maybe theyβll still get a chance when the weather turns
Vegetable germination has been pretty bad this winter with all the hot dry weather here (RIP carrots and bunching onions) but I do have a couple Red Acre cabbage coming in strong and theyβre very pretty π±π₯¬ #vegetablegarden #zone10
My papaya trees are still growing!
The only other time I got them to germinate and grow we ended up moving and had to leave them behind right as they started fruiting XD
Very happy that this time the papaya bounty will be all mine! π±
Next up. Figs.
We have propagation! This is not a drill! (Chaste tree) #gardensky π±
Mornings have been a cooler with the fog rolling in each night. Today itβs still overcast.
I love lighting the first fire of the season.
Neat
I hope this goes better than my previous attempt to learn to crochet.
A little shout out to #Greenstalk for saving my strawberry plants.
I was going to rip them all out for the fruit only being eaten by slugs/snails every year.
Instead, this year I actually got to enjoy a few strawberries!π
Now that they have established Iβm sure next year will be even better π±
My first summer with zinnias and DEFINITELY planting them again! Big and beautiful π
I will be moving them tho. I greatly underestimated how tall and lanky they would grow π± #flowerreport
Thatβs a big plant! Iβm obv doing my peppers wrong π
At home. I was at home lol. Iβve been growing milkweeds in my front yard for the monarchs.
Thus far in October, I have planted cucumber, edamame, carrots, snap peas, bunching onions, bulbing onions, leeks, cabbage, lettuce, sunflowers; & transplanted peppers and mini pumpkins. π
The cucumber is already pretty much over but it was good while it lasted!
Excited for my future bounty π±
Saw this guy as I returned home from walking the dog. π
π¦ Monarch taking a well earned break. π±
Same bro. π
The collected bones from three Costco rotisserie chickens means itβs time to make some chicken stock for chowder! π½οΈ
Sadly only the herbs are home grown this time as squash doesnβt make good stock ROFL π±
But now Iβve planted all my aromatics for fall/winter harvest π§
π₯
Look at this awesome guy!
This is why I leave the plants that look like theyβre just sad aphid colonies because those draw in all the secondary biodiversity.
I get so much joy out of going out the front door and discovering something new. π±π¦π

Whoa this one is new! A grape sphinx moth. πππ±
Truly βgrow it and they will comeβ.
A pluot tree (plum apricot hybrid)
Deep red pluot fruit
Pink speckled with yellow pluot fruit
Yellow pluot fruit
I did not expect that the color variation in fruit on this grafted 4 in 1 pluot tree would be so distinct or so pretty! π± π³
That is a really weird thing to say to a person growing 6 plants in their backyard food garden.
My first time successfully germinating edamame! π±π«π«
We *intended* to get a trellis up but life happened
and now (a year or so later) the grapes are living their best uninterrupted life. π±πππ
Any idea whatβs wrong with my papayas? π€
My hope is itβs just stress from being transplanted mid-summer. π±βοΈβοΈβοΈ

Two week check in and the mango volunteer is seemingly doing fine in its new location! π₯π±
Burned myself real good yesterday.
π₯π₯π₯
I was only going to be outside for a βshort timeβ π€₯ lol. What a lie. That is never true π€ͺ
I hate dressing up like Iβm going to war just to go outside but so be it!! π§βπ« no exceptions!!
