I think you're right on the money there honestly. I try to turn character creation in these sorts of systems into a little roleplay lite once we get the bones of it but it does necessitate a lot of "yeah this is my past"

I wanna start with a general idea and then find out my character had to drop out of college after being sabotaged by a rival and ten years later my planned Space Navy Medic is actually a junk shuttle pilot on a backwater frontier colony still trying to terraform it's ecosystem. Thats FUN!

I think more and more I am coming to realize I love to be surprised by character creation in TTRPGs which is why I love life path systems of creation. I know many folks love to plan out a build from start to finish and slowly add pieces of their optimization machine, but that's not me.

At that level of wealth the real currency becomes social capital and fame. It doesn't surprise me at all that when these people are so wealthy they can pretty much never worry about needs or wants again that they end up devoting all their time to pursuing fame and esteem. It's really depressing.

Honestly "I'm just happy to be included" is becoming more and more a theme of my life. So many places and communities that I get to be a part of where I'm not really the focus or the standout but I'm just glad I get to be there.

Thank you! That one is my first actual attempt at freehanding on a mech and for how little I knew at the time I'm still pretty happy with how it turned out :)

I am amazed at how much fun I'm having with Classic Marathon from 1994. I'm not crazy far into it (I have almost caught up to the story to the point I was when I was just reading terminals online.) But the gameplay is way better than I was expecting from a game almost as old as I am.

I looked this up cause I was curious after playing with a friend earlier today. If you solo queue with no team fill, you're in a lobby with only other solos, 6-8 players. If you are playing with teammates youre looking at 4-6 teams, 12-15 players total depending on tne map.

As you dock with the Marathon, the narrative mentions that you feel like you have done this before. Deja vu? Or is this some sneaky foreshadowing? I have no idea at this point but it coes interest me to learn.

Fwiw I am not usually an extraction shooter fan either and it has hooks in me 😅

You drift for twenty minutes before managing to dock the pod with the Marathon proper and it is at this point we catch up to where I thought the game's story started.

Leela contacts you, and you can now complete an infinite recursive loop of this thread by returning to the start! 😁

You stuff yourself into an escape pod and manage to get free of the shuttle moments before a missile from the aliens destroys it. Durandal sends you a message wondering if he should tell the aliens you survived but then gets distracted and goes off to "play" with some other toys.

The moment you seal yourself safely in the battle armor, Durandal instead orders the shuttle to accelerate into the hangar wall. As this is happening, you notice a huge teleportation occur in the space outside and an alien ship appears.
