Very almost done! Still not 100% with the shading but after a point I'll have to just call it quits or I'll mess with it indefinitely.

Next step is the loincloth and then all the extra details - blood, arrows, hair, expression, some extra shadow softening/shaping on the body.

I definitely know that after this is done I'll be working on Gothic Gay Classist Horror because I did some research and so many things just slotted into place and fit in with the themes I wanted to explore.

Anyway that's all I'll say for now, the rest of this will go in a devlog or two as part of my being more transparent and cataloguing my chaotic process a lot more.

Form and structure are really important to me and I want the narrative overall to be quite maze-like and crossed with itself and much less reactive to choice so much as engaging on its own terms to build up a single story. So more novella with choices than, say, Colossal Cave or Zork.

I'm feeling pretty comfortable with where it's at and my skills as a writer but it is very much a kind of drifting, surreal atmosphere with a little story to guide which is... Nebulous, to say the least. But I've been pushing myself on the writing side of it and greatly enjoying experimenting.

I guess the big thing for me is that this IF isn't like, the "you have a map and use commands to progress" so much as it's much more "you read, a choice is presented, you continue" and me hoping that my writing is strong enough to keep people engaged over a novella length.

Where's everyone going, marriage?

I can't believe I have to argue that you shouldn't make sweeping and serious claims without evidence even if the person you're making them against is really bad. This shouldn't be controversial.

Michael and Jason were both just men in masks, and after a point I guess a little ambiguously human but the core design was still just stabby dude. There was nothing quite like Freddy as the caterpillar from wonderland, or conjoined incest twins. Did it always work? No but I appreciate the effort.

Was thinking about what my favourite slashers are and it really is Elm Street and Hellraiser because even the bad ones have some completely out there ideas and cool designs for dream like and or erotic monsters which is something none of the other ones really had going for them.

90s rubber faced monster prosthetics are my favourite thing and I blame Goosebumps and Buffy for that.

Honestly there's a couple of them not just Cinema Sins but I do my best to avoid that kind of crap.

Freddy vs Jason, Wishmaster, Warlock, Lord of Illusion, Hellraiser Inferno (the one that's basically Angel Heart), Nightmare on Elm Street 6, Texas Chain Saw 3 (the one with Viggo Mortensen as an Evil Gay) and Nightbreed all come to mind as ones I super enjoy. Yes I love Clive Barker and the 90s.

Honestly every Hellraiser is up there with Elm Street for sheer imagination even when they're not "great".

I feel like those YouTube "haha gotcha" film criticisms that are like "tiny continuity error" or "making fun of cheaply done SFX" have done such harm to films as a whole like. That stuff can be bad but on an individual basis does it pull me out of the fiction or is it just nitpicky?

Mostly I was doing that because in bed I had this really vivid dream and I wanted to get it down on paper before I forgot. Very much an "in the future" game, the interactive fiction is my focus right now and I finally got some disparate bits to slot together and work which I'm pleased with.

I've had sketches for some of this stuff sitting around for fucking ages and so many cool concepts I want to explore For Funsies.

I have been writing a separate project that I might work on after the IF and I'm describing it as toxic obsessional gay Gothic classism with a side of cult.

I need to get back into the habit of kicking myself up the arse so I actually get shit done properly. The big issue is my health but that's not going to change. I'm almost done with the Sebastian redo and then it'll be Ophelia, and maybe Bloody Lady and then I wanna get going on some other ideas.

Anyway after my waste of an appointment today I'm going to get back to working on shit. Uni needs catching up with and I've got art to finish and an interactive fiction piece to code. Busy busy busy. IF is playable but I wanna play with the structure a bit first.

I can't compete with this.

I wanted to get some sort of undercut for ages and I kept putting it off because I wanted to see how I looked with long hair but, I hated it. I much prefer shoulder length bob+shaved back like I'm a cyberpunk person or something. I'm not, but I love the way it looks.

My latest stim has been shaving the back of my head and then moisturising and the feeling of cooling moisturiser on shaved scalp is fucking insanely good.

If it seems like I'm complaining a lot about healthcare it's because I am and I'm fucking tired of it. I bet this wouldn't happen in London or somewhere posh, only shitholes like where I live.

Got home, had a little bit of a cry, remembered I still need to chase about ADHD and psych referrals too, and then my cat came in and started purring so that's helped me a little.

The NHS has been pulled out from under us and isn't fit for purpose, and that's entirely what they intended so they can sell it off and privatise it and it fucking sucks. Don't get me started on the incompetence of staff.

So I'm not getting meds yet, I need to get to a phlebotomy department before 11 AM (every hospital is about 1 hour from me, not taking morning traffic into account, which pushes that up by like an hour) Monday to Thursday because I can't get these done at my GP. Brilliant.
