Sometimes the grass is actually pretty damn green where you are, and you should sit there and appreciate it for a minute.

This didn't happen. The perception that it did is largely based on fictional shows that were about rich people. Much more common was a household where one person (theoretically Dad in a het household) was the higher earner and paid the housing costs and the other paid utilities & food

The two men hit it off right away, and as they walked drunkenly through the deserted streets of Osaka at 4:30 in the morning, Reitzell decided to ask Shields if he might be interested in contributing to a film score, if ever he found a suitable project. βSure,β Shields replied. His only prior experience with film music had been a $5,000 payday heβd shared with J Mascis to demo a version of the Mission Impossible 2 theme song. (In another win for mainstream American culture, Limp Bizkit got the gig instead.) Reitzell knew of Shieldsβs recent difficulties with Island and his inability to finish new solo work in the studio, but he seemed undeterred.

roadhouseendgame i was talking to my mom about cardassians and said something along the lines of what must it be like to be a cardassian civilian. like abstractly knowing the rest of the galaxy thinks of your species as 'the evil ones' and kinda sorta knowing your government runs labor camps and torture prisons and is a military empire, and it's a huge deal for everyone else in the galaxy, but you just like run a restaurant so it's not a big part of your daily life, so you just like, go about your day and make soup and don't think about it' and then halfway through my sentence i actually heard myself and then had to go sit down for like ten minutes. like sat down in a chair and stared at the floor for ten minutes
whoops

The Witch Hat Atelier anime gonna turn me into the most insufferable kind of "you have to read the manga" person. So much is lost from Shirahama's incredible paneling.

I know I buy far too many books but I like to think that lining the walls of my house with them wards off evil in some deeply important way.
Note from my notebook (2016). Nothing has changed.

Me, who has worked in used bookshops and in thrift bc education work actually doesn't pay that well due to ~funding~, holding in my hands a very nice $3 copy of Trethewey's Native Guard, on which I once wrote a very nice paper for graduate school: [this post, hours later]
Overheard @ used bookshop today: I would donate my [goopy "historical" slop] to Goodwill but they probably wouldn't even make it onto the shelves because those people wouldn't understand them? It's just I read through them in a DAY and Barnes & Noble doesn't have a buyback??
