the institutions governing AI were built for a different century. that's not a metaphor.
meanwhile xAI's grok, which has generated millions of deepfakes and was raided by french prosecutors, is already on classified networks under the exact "all lawful use" terms the pentagon wants.
you can't be both too dangerous to work with and too essential to lose. the contradiction tells you the dispute isn't really about legality. it's about control.
anthropic's deadline is 5:01 PM today.
the pentagon is using a korean war statute designed for steel mills to try to compel an AI company to drop its safety guardrails while simultaneously threatening to label that same company a supply chain risk

Beyond education at large, there's already been in lots of Envision-related conversation about how technology is impacting knowledge generation, AI & careers, and being agile in a world where traditional structures and businesses are being disrupted.

Join us this weekend at Envision @ Princeton! I'll be a part of the Future of AI in Education Panel alongside excellent squad of Tammy Kwan, Amber Berry, and Morgan Mifflin!

The means for implementation and action and creation will be more flat and more accessible. Yet the quality of destination and the holistic cost-effectiveness of traversing towards it will be what separates.
It's still undervalued, and there is a tremendous amount of debris and shadow that is coming out from existing trends of acceleration and rapidity. But I am evermore confident that being able to discern *where* to go and *why* it matters to choose one thing over another will be prized.
The quality of thinking, refinement of ideas, and its association to discerning destinations for where to move a situation, will be increasingly in the spotlight.
#AI in #Elections - another 2016 #cambridgeanalytica throwback yeah?
Everybody wants a simple, extreme conclusion, and it's just not the way.
A lot of people are making terrible business decisions right now because of this. It's not all bad, it's certainly not all good, and things are changing.
Sobriety will win out in the end, even if bc everything else fails.
There is still a strain of populist critical AI discourse that holds the technology is fundamentally worthless or fatally flawed. I think
Chris Hayes is at least right to call that a dead end.

Screenshot of a tweet from Jack Clark that reads, "People leaving regular companies: Time for a change! Excited for my next chapter! People leaving AI companies: I have gazed into the endless night and there are shapes out there. We must be kind to one another. I am moving on to study philosophy."
Literally, you guys, I know a woman who was a mathematician for Google working on machine learning and she left because she could not sit comfortably with the intensely difficult philosophical questions her work with AI raised in her.

I saw one new-wave future/progress person "heroically" discuss how both the left and right need to embrace more technology.
While yes, very much not mentioning any unpleasant elephants in the room.
Still thinking about how to reply.
It was ridiculous to see MacAskill's strange utopia post super intelligence pontifications at this time, like he is so out of touch he doesn't even pretend to read the room.

So, more pressure on the AI "#Eneregy" wars, a NVIDIA's CEO said, no?
Yes, they are.

Exactlyβpeople need to understand the implicit threat here, especially given that we live in a society where weβre regularly told that unhoused, disabled, or out-of-work people donβt deserve to live.
