Can't even make this stuff up at this point
A quick look at the East for anyone that still has playoff aspirations for this Sixers squad, currently in 8th (a Play-In spot).
π Just 1.5 games over the Hawks in 9th and 3 over the Hornets in 10th. Those teams in their last 13 games:
ATL 9-4
CHA 8-5
PHI 5-8
UPDATE for Sixers vs. Cavs: rookie VJ Edgecombe has been downgraded to OUT and will miss his third game with a lumbar contusion.
That means Philly will now be without their top FOUR scorers β Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid, Paul George and Edgecombe β in Cleveland tonight.
There comes a point when even I, someone employed to write words about the Sixers/these games, am simply at a loss for them.
But, the show must go on, I guess. The Sixers (what's left of them) face the Cavs tonight π

This was truly me the entire last few minutes of that Sixers win over the Jazz...
The Jazz are tanking so hard that they ended a guy's season for sleep apnea surgery and the Sixers are now losing to them in the third quarter
The Utah Jazz, a team that wants to lose, are beating the Sixers 58-55.
1. One HELL of an effort play from VJ Edgecombe to save this possession for the Sixers.
2. Awesome to see Edgecombe so concerned / apologetic toward the fan that took a bit of a kick to the face in the process.
During player intros on NBC, Kelly Oubre Jr. says he went to "YouTube University" π
The Sixers shot 57.6% from the floor tonight in their win over the Pacers.
That is Philadelphia's best FG% for a game since they shot 59.0% (against the Toronto Raptors) on March 31, 2024.
As awful as last night's loss to the Pelicans was, bouncing back to get the win tonight against the Timberwolves could be HUGE for the Sixers mentally.
A great team effort on the second leg of a back-to-back to cut their losing streak, even without Joel Embiid or PG.
Tyrese Maxey with the poster on Anthony Edwards, then Kate Scott @katetscott.bsky.social with the brilliant "they forgot about Dre" call. Good stuff.
Joel Embiid reported soreness in his right shin. Following consultation with doctors, Embiid has received daily treatment, while progressing through on-court work and strength and conditioning.
Heβs OUT tomorrow, reevaluated ahead of the back-to-back this weekend, per Sixers.
Here's the full podcast from Kevin O'Connor (Yahoo Sports) with trainer Drew Hanlen. I clipped some of the stuff specifically about Sixers Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey on my page, but the whole conversation is really great and worth a listen.

Drew Hanlen on Tyrese Maxey
"The last couple weeks I've been like 'just take a game off, you need a break, your body's fatiguing.'
So that's another thing I think the Sixers will have to do to ultimately be at their best is find ways to give him breaks."
Drew Hanlen on Tyrese Maxey
"I messed up [in 2024] with Tyrese because, the whole summer, we prepared for him to be better in a two-man game with Joel."
"[Maxey] wasn't able to carry his team to wins because he wasn't prepared enough ... we didn't train him to be the #1"
Drew Hanlen:
"'Joel Embiid's out ... oh no, is he seriously hurt?' No, he's just not 100% ... he's not going to push his body to a place where he has in the past.
People know all the surgeries, all the injuries. People have no idea the amount of pain that he's played through"
Drew Hanlen on Joel Embiid's mindset this season
"He's bought into something this year he's never done in the past. In the past, if he was 50%, he was still playing."
"This year, he's taken more of the approach of 'if I'm not healthy, I'm not playing.'" (credit Kevin O'Connor)
Trainer Drew Hanlen on Joel Embiid
"People will look at him and be like 'he's out of shape, he's lazy.' You don't go from picking up a basketball the first time at 16 to being arguably the most skilled big guy of all time, in a decade, if you don't work hard."
(credit Kevin O'Connor)
Jose Alvarado, who the Knicks acquired for two second-round picks at the deadline, is absolutely cooking the Sixers right now.

No need to add anyone at the deadline here! The Sixers are a deep enough team, clearly!
Thank you sir!
"The Sixers front officeβs actions (and inactions) at the deadline just coincidentally saved the owner money while adding nothing to the team they have. Yet again."
The Sixers trade deadline (and how they'll spin it) an insult to fans β¬οΈ

Just truly an embarrassment from the Sixers at the trade deadline. What a giant spit in the face for the fans, the players on the team (especially Joel Embiid), Jared McCain...
Article soon.
I think people feel some type of way about the McCain trade. Just a hunch, though.
We have finalized a trade sending Jared McCain to Oklahoma City in exchange for a 2026 First-Round pick and three future second-round picks.
