The sometimes brutally honest feedback I received from participants showed me that even when I aimed for an emancipatory research practice, this could inadvertently have the opposite effect. Visibility invites us to reflect honestly on these tensions and ambiguities.
As the title suggests, my reflections are inspired by the complex relationships I experienced during my ethnographic fieldwork with refugees and asylum seekers.
