Sasha, while you might think he would be the detective, is better suited for the red herring role! Of course it's the grumpy guy with his foot in his mouth! (But it's not!)

“Sasha held out the flowers, and a strange series of emotions flew across Galen’s face. Confusion, then shock, then worry that was almost fear. A blush bloomed on his unburned cheek, and he looked up at Sasha with a small, nervous smile. “I, uh, you don’t know anything about the language of flowers, do you?” Galen asked, the tips of his ears as red as the carnations in the bouquet. Sasha shook his head, and said, “I’m not sure what that is.” “Oh, okay,” Galen said, releasing a breath with a small laugh. “So, it’s a way of communicating your feelings with what flowers you give someone. Different flowers mean different things.” “Oh, is this one good then?” Sasha asked, trying to smile kindly at Galen. “I asked the flower seller for help. I told him that I needed apology flowers.” “Well, uh,” Galen said, another small laugh escaping his lips. “Well, it would be good if I were your, um, romantic partner.” Realization hit him in the chest, hard and sudden as a horse’s hoof. Sasha had screamed at the man just a few nights ago, and now he was giving him a romantic gift. No wonder Galen had looked so confused. The Lady of Flowers must be mocking Sasha. “Oh,” Sasha said, eyes widening. “Oh, um…I’m sorry.”

Poor Sasha. In this excerpt, even when he's trying his best, he still ends up awkward.
