i am so tired of screaming from the rooftops that we have a looming, avoidable crisis of evictions brewing.

everyone knows it, but yet government and philanthropy have no solutions. unpaid volunteers of rent funds are doing the work that the people who control the purse strings refuse to do

I'm asking that we all raise our political expectations. We deserve good things.

The same day DHS announced the surge would end in Minnesota, ICE activity increased in small towns The less densely populated areas outside the Twin Cities make it harder for protesters and observers to organize.

There is no drawdown. There is no retreat. ICE is just redistributing their assets to better avoid accountability.

β€œThese masked agents leaving our state can be spun any way people want, but history will show what this was: regular people, clergy and teachers, janitors and soccer moms, people across all of our complicated differences, simply refusing to let our neighbors be attacked and abducted without a fight. The level of solidarity shown by Minnesotans should be an example for everyone and we couldn’t be more proud of our state.

To reject the US as a fundamentally American country with a deep shared history and commonality with the rest of the Americas, including that Spanish has long been our de facto national second language, is on a deep level anti-American. It's hating actual American culture and history and tradition.

if everyone could take on the β€œwhat if we just did the thing instead of waiting for it to happen” energy that much of minneapolis has right now, the world could be pretty good

Feds Identify β€œLeader of Antifa” The list they're creating says so, anyway

🚨 Documents leaked to me reveal a federal watchlist of American protesters suspected of being Antifa - including its supposed leader.

One Department of Homeland Security document says a 29-year-old resident of Portland "is the leader of Antifa":

Protest breaks out at Dilley immigration detention facility holding 5-year-old Liam Ramos A protest broke out Saturday at the ICE-run South Texas family detention complex in Dilley, where five-year-old Liam Ramos is being detained.

Reminder that, in recent days, children have rallied and protested for their freedom inside an ICE detention center where water has been described as "putrid" and meals reportedly contain β€œbugs,” dirt, and debris. This is where the kidnapped 5-year-old Liam Ramos is being held.

β€œEverybody Showed Up”: Stunning Crowds at Minnesota Day of Strike and Shutdown Against ICE Extreme cold didn't stop the shutdown on Friday as some 100 faith leaders were arrested, residents stayed home from work, and an estimated 50,000 or more marched through downtown Minneapolis.

I'm not one for false optimism. But what I witnessed today in Minneapolis was tremendous, both in scale and exuberance. It was a stunning answer to the federal assault on Minnesota, a show of solidarity that gives us something to hold on to during times that are unforgiving.

there’s a lot of people in this thread asking β€œhow are they doing it?” and then I remembered we actually tried to tell people what we did in 2023 and there’s a lot of overlap.

if you’ve been watching coverage of MN you might recognize many of the central characters.

it’s not magic. it’s work.

My take on the Jan 23 action in Minneapolis is that I don’t really care whether it’s a β€œtrue” general strike (we could argue about that all day).

What DOES matter is that it’s a bold and necessary escalation, and local labor leaders are publicly encouraging workers to join in anti-ICE resistance
