Thanks for taking a look! Lords of Salem actually just BARELY missed the list. My favorite from Zombie as well
Good list of sound-based horror here. I would add Lords of Salem, which is the best Rob Zombie movie by a very significant margin (fight me).
Undertone looks dope and I hope I can see it in a theater.
The LGBTQIA+ community was instrumental in turning the Triple Dipper into a viral meme and reinvigorating Chili's.
Goodbye forever, you baby back bigots.
Definitely delivers on some chilling sound design. Hope you dig it!
With Undertone making itself heard in theaters this weekend, I looked at some horror films that weaponize sound to full effect for @dreadcentral.bsky.social:

Damian Mc Carthy about to scare the living hell out of me once again
Same. Even with the show getting cancelled, I felt like they ended it perfectly.
Still from Ash vs. Evil Dead of a man (Ash) in a trailer with a chainsaw hand
Watching Ash vs. Evil Dead again and still kind of canβt believe this series exists. Nailed expectations and then some.
Epic return for Bruce Campbell to the franchise that Iβm so glad we got.
For sure. Some phenomenal performances in this year's group.
Poster for If I Had Legs Iβd Kick You
I expected If I Had Legs Iβd Kick You to be tense, but goddamn that was stressful.
Rose Byrne is incredible.

THREAD: I got laid off from NYMag/Vulture after 14 years. The family lost 75% of income + medical. Now mzs.press bookstore, once a side project. is do-or-die for Judith & I. I feel weird telling you this because others are doing much worse. But if you could like or share this, we'd be so grateful!
happy 40th birthday to Highlander, one of my favorite movies of all time
A sigh that says Godzilla at Boba Bear
A sigh that says Godzilla Attention: Kaiju Research Facility
A Godzilla mug with steam coming out of his head
A Godzilla cutout with a blue churro extending from his mouth
Went to a pop-up at Boba Bear for my boy Godzilla
Iβve got some more writing up at @bloody-disgusting.com. This time I had the chance to talk about a classic Shaw Brothers horror flick and sing the praises of one of the studioβs greatest directors.
POP QUIZ HOT SHOTS: what are some of the most stylistically bold and formally daring music docs you've seen that are about specific scenes or eras (as opposed to hagiographies on specific artists or bands)?
(Signal boosts greatly appreciated for this one!)
Still from Blow Out of a woman standing in front of an American Flag, hands held out for help and screaming
Revisited Blow Out and mannn, this image hits harder than ever
Tom Noonanβs performance as Frankensteinβs Monster in The Monster Squad is one of my favorite portrayals of the creature. Wrote about his impact on monster kids like myself for @dreadcentral.bsky.social

Finished Resident Evil: Requiem. Hands down one of the best in the series. Alternatively thrilling, surprising and downright terrifying. The Grace segments had me screaming.
A fantastic love letter to a top-tier survival horror franchise

My baby is back in print today π₯°
A woman trying to save her city has to slit a few throats to do it in this noir-inspired dark fantasy world, a story I wanted to tell that was the reason I became a writer.
