I'm seeing this more and more.

This is basically the whole thing in a nutshell. I got into an argument this morning with someone who was insisting that allying with people who just think the Final Solution to the Trans Problem should be sorted out in a legal, measured way, and baffled that I wouldn't feel safe around them
Anime has been on my mind lately, and so here is a look at Attack on Titan, from the perspective of it as a Giant Monster story.
As ever, it's only 1USD to access the whole archive.

NGL, Horry, you didn't need a lot of pushing...
Sian got me into the models before Xmas, and Iβm now on a slippery weathering paints slope, but I donβt know any of the backstory other than βthese look cool and are fun to buildβ. This thread is gold and has one excellent pun.
Don't mind me, this is how I amuse myself
But then
There's 46 years of it, right?
It can't ALL be like this?
The Hathaway movie, which felt like a legacy sequel, had the independence movement terrorists being the heroes (I think). Without a background, it was pretty hard to tell.
17/
But to summarise, and this is the Wholly Authoritative Opinion of a Welsh Lady Who Knows Very Little About Giant Robot Anime and only watched 2 eps, which you therefore MUST take WHOLLY SERIOUSLY
This Gundam thing has a very conservative set of assumptions about how worlds work, doesn't it?
16/
(Digression to remind us all that the alt-right was founded by weebs)
(JK)
(Not entirely kidding)
15/
Meanwhile, literal conversation in episode 2 of Mobile Suit Gundam where one of the supposed Goodies, now that they figured out that the Ultimate Weapon (silly looking blue and white robot) was stolen by a kid, says, "Eh, child soldiers aren't such a bad thing, always had them."
14/
OMG
CHAR GUEVARA
No hear me out
13/
And here is Char Aznable: he is a twinky pin-up with the coolest uniform in the show. He gets a red Zaku (that's the Zeon robot) and they call him the Red Comet.
He's both a revolutionary leader and a flying ace.
The show wants you to hate him, but it kind of doesn't know how.
12/
OK, so this show has the feeling of, like, super conservative anticommunist propaganda.
Where the terrorists are both incompetent and yet also super scary, a bunch of separatists with insane resources and funding
11/
OK, so this whole thing is making me really uncomfortable.
There's an independence movement. We're supposed to assume it's a bad thing. Rhe show depicts them not caring about civilian casualties and
Having a super well funded space navy?
And being the Actual Evil Empire
And
HANG ON
10/
The suburb is inside a spaceship by the way. Did I mention that?
9/
(Bit where Deeply Annoying 15yo Protagonist picks up a manual with CLASSIFIED written on it, and *immediately* starts flipping through)
Me: Finally! Some realism!
8/
(Reader, Do Not Flail. I am Playing Stupid. But...)
But, hang on, Voice Over Guy. "Atrocities in the name of independence" you say?
Oh. Huh.
Oh, OK, we're focussing on people in the Federation. Who live in a suburb. OK, sure, why not. 7/
OK so everyone lives in these space habitats. There's a Federation, and an independence movement called the Principality of Zeon.
Cool. So I know who I'm rooting for now.
It's the scrappy independence fighters with the cool orange and green robots.
OBVIOUSLY
6/
This I have gathered. Here for Twink Big Bad.
OK, to the beginning. Let's fire up Mobile Suit Gundam (1979).
The OG, right? The one that started it all.
I have now seen the first two episodes and
I have Questions. So many Questions. 5/
So guys, I decided to try Mobile Suit Gundam.
First thing I gave a watch to was the movie Gundam: Hathaway, which was on Netflix.
The plot was simple enough, but there was a background that this thing expected you to know. Why should I care about this guy? Why are they fighting? Baffled. 4/
Anyhoo so you get curious, right? Why is the little pilot figure so brightly coloured? Why are there two main aesthetics when you look at the kits, the silly white/blue/red/yellow ones and the cool looking ones with the cyclops eyes and the cabling?
OK, to Crunchyroll! 3/
A hand holding a built and weathered Master Grade MS Zaku II Char Aznable Custom ver 2.0, a model of a salmon and red mecha. This one is about 20cm tall and is weathered and panel lined. Pretty nicely if I say so myself.
The leg of a built, panel lined and weathered Master Grade MS Zaku II Char Aznable Custom ver 2.0, a 1/100 scale model kit depicting a salmon, black and red mecha from the anime Mobile Suit Gundam.
The rocket backpack of a built, panel lined and weathered Master Grade MS Zaku II Char Aznable Custom ver 2.0, a 1/100 scale model kit depicting a salmon, black and red mecha from the anime Mobile Suit Gundam.
A hand holding a built, panel lined and weathered Master Grade MS Zaku II Char Aznable Custom ver 2.0, a 1/100 scale model kit depicting a salmon, black and red mecha from the anime Mobile Suit Gundam. This time it's shown from the right hand side and clearly displays the arms of the Principality of Zeon over a bunch of kill markings.
But recently, I just, yknow, started kicking back by building and tricking out Gunpla. The giant robot kits. I don't really know the lore, but you get curious, right? 2/
OK, look. I don't know about anime much. I've watched a handful of the core movies (Akira, GitS, Paprika, Perfect Blue) and seen a handful of anime series through (NGE/Rebuild, Cowboy Bebop, Attack on Titan). I checked out of FM Alchemist and Demon Slayer because grating tonal whiplash...
