Hello from London, ON which is basically the same thing 😂😆
Hello from London, ON which is basically the same thing 😂😆
Living in Scandinavia, I find myself morbidly fascinated by American progressives' inability to understand—or acknowledge—that the secret to a healthy, functioning welfare state is broad middle-class buy-in. Everyone pays something—some more than others; everyone gets something—some more than others
"The sooner David Ellison takes over that network, the better."
The Defense Secretary calling for a billionaire ally of the government to take over a media outlet & make it more pro-government. This is what authoritarianism looks like. But in other countries they try & hide it.
Good start.
Next step, make all cell phone and internet plans month to month with no contracts allowed. customer can cancel and move at any point without being locked in.
Should we be striving to ensure we are spending money efficiently, sure, I don't think anyone disagrees with that in principle.
However, at some point we also all need to accept that services costs money, and those costs go up over time.
We can't fix our systems through starving them of funds.
Canada's attempt at a patriot act is coming back tomorrow, and you know they are gonna use Tumbler Ridge as the excuse for "lawful access". Don't fall for it, it's about counter-insurgency, not "making kids safe again"

oh, so the official tech bro term for stealing people's work in order to make AI sludge is apparently "surfacing". noted for the future
Hot take? I think we should stop trying to make computers do new things for us and just pay people more to do the thing.
Inventions are good and all, machines in general: very helpful. But I’m not sure we’re making progress any more folks…
21/ Its day eleven. Hormuz is Closed. Fuel is trapped in Persian Gulf. Asian Countries now rationing fuel.
– Vietnam told people to WORK FROM HOME because they're running out of fuel
– Bangladesh started fuel RATIONING -limits on how much you can pump per vehicle
–Asia-wide petrol prices surging
Canadians are being crushed by the cost of living while those at the top hoard obscene wealth.
We need a government with the courage to tax that wealth and invest it in what we actually need.
That’s how we build a strong, independent economy that can stand up to Trump and work for all of us.
Eerie moment today when a neighbour remarked that we should brace ourselves for higher food prices as the cost of oil trickles to the rest of goods. I nodded grimly. I’ve already been seeing .50-$1 jumps on frequently bought goods. I can bike to get them but how they get to the store… 😮💨
Trump is once again denigrating our PM and ignoring the sovereignty of our border. This isn't "Trump being Trump" it is Trump being Putin.
We are subject to constant psyops and economic pressure to attack our right to exist.

It's also incredibly hard to avoid it in some scenarios. Auto summarization now basically requires you to either run your own services or be very careful choosing what platforms to use, lest it be forced upon you by the big players who have a vested interest in forcing it down your throat.
Even people who DO know and say they care about the environment are using ChatGPT to tidy up their documents for them and read their emails. Is that less intensive? Is that worth it? What gets through to people on this one?? I’m at a loss...
and Nixon (Watergate)!
This is what ecocide looks like.
a car is not a symbol of freedom; it's a symbol of your government's dereliction of duty to provide basic infrastructure that produces a social good (which most comparable countries have in spades) bc it's not really a government, but rather the functional sockpuppet of a greedy, reckless industry
So let me get this straight ...
1. US bombs Iran
2. Oil price goes up a bit, benefitting Russia's petrostate
3. Russia gives Iran targeting info
4. Oil price shoots WAY up
5. US unsanctions Russian oil
Gotta love how the city just caved to drivers on Dundas Place, making a “loading zone” where drivers were always pulling around the bollards onto the sidewalk anyway 😑 #ldnont now there’s free parking on both sides of the street instead of extra wide sidewalks.
Wake the fuck up, folks. The regime dead set on claiming Canada and Greenland as part of their Empire. Just like Putin.
Yup, in case there was any doubt about his goals to annex the entire hemisphere.
Really sick of AI being forced down everyone’s throat.
AI can be a useful tool for some activities (mostly improving efficiency on monotonous tasks).
But the sales pitch is insane & the idea that if you’re not integrating AI you are going the way of the 🦕 is insulting.
Doesn’t the province also play a huge role in this, as in by clawing away at rent control, they also remove that as an option for downsizing?
“If you are not profitable, you are expendable.” * low whistle * If that isn’t a phrase for the times in so many ways. Lots of points in here that really hit home, whether you’re in NS or not: governments everywhere like austerity because their donors like it 😒.
If you don't control your own data, you will be controlled. But also, don't use LLM's. Just don't. You will be better off both now and in the future.
If the government gets to decide if you have them, they're not human rights.
This sounds like an ad, but it's about murder.
Over the course of 3.8 billion years, we went from single cell organisms to civilization. Now, with over 8 billion people on the planet, we're at the brink of letting it all be obliterated by a minority of people, billionaires and oligarchs. I think what we need to do is quite clear.
This is like the cellphone thing isn’t it. Monopolies by small number of companies charging us whatever they want.
