The good news is rise in petrol prices and potential scarcity and rise in gas prices may be the driver people need to move to EVs, Solar, Home Batteries and Heat Pumps. Even if just to be insulated from some of the drama and worry.

Quite difficult to do that with a member of the EU but could be something like they did with the ICC judges. Visa, MasterCard Facebook, WhatsApp etc could be ordered to cut anyone off in Spain.

Good show. What was the quote about law and the devil again ?

Which will go straight to the bottom line of the UK gas suppliers. Time to decouple renewable energy pricing from the gas price.

I spotted blossom already on my neighbours tree this morning. Spring is most definitely on its
way !

Time to head to the local fuel station with a couple of Jerry cans ?

People who use a pseudonym that looks like a real name but in fact is not are performing not just obfuscation for anonymity but deception. PS I used the example of @ barristersecret we can find a lot of supporting evidence that they are a real individual and a real barrister.

Bring anonymous can be achieved by describing yourself as something like " The secret Barrister " You have to wonder what people are trying to achieve when they use an assumed non existent name.

Good idea. Why not take it a step further ? Imagine how much money the Government could raise from the TV rights to " Britain's got Royalty".

True. What I would say however if that if I did install a combi boiler that output 50db of sound externally. Would I need to apply for planning permission as I do for a heat pump ? I suspect not.

22.02.2026 09:45 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Quick Google tells me typical combi boiler noise output is 40 to 50 DB.. so this restriction makes no sense. For most of us road noise will be higher than this as well.

This is crazy. No such planning restriction on split A/C units in most European countries. Just bung the outside unit on your balcony and all is good. Also in a hot country. AC is mostly used in the summer when neighbours are more likely to have their windows open.

Which overall plays into the hands of the climate skeptics. Better to incentivise industrial, retail and home rooftop installs. Particularly where they include battery, grid stabilisation and don't need connectivity upgrades. 'Balcony' plug in solar also needs to be enabled by new IET rules.

I'm also skeptical of some of the over generous CFD ( contract for difference) awards for solar generators which seem overly generous given the dirt cheap nature of solar these days. Seem to be leading to an excess of large scale solar on farm land. Leads to unnecessary friction with locals.

Like you say, it's a start. Too much of electricity bill is still going towards network upgrades to companies that should really have been investing anyway, but are demanding bill payers stump up for upgrades plus a healthy profit for them.

Oh no. That would be terrible. Who would open new leisure centres ?

Even with lower tax rates more workers still leads to more tax ? Also PAYE system makes avoidance by workers hard. Also I think windfall for Ireland from Apple was sort of forced on it by EU as a one off. I offer UK taxing or failing to tax Amazon etc in support of my argument.

19.02.2026 08:31 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

No. We have a tax system that is really good at collecting tax from workers but really bad at collecting tax from large companies. At least if big companies hire workers, Govt gets tax income. If people are replaced with machines. Off shored profits benefit only shareholders

All that said. I can recommend a visit to the East Durham coast in the summer. Some spectacular places. But also massive deprivation in some of the ex mining villages.

Sadly the more capable have already left. The more vulnerable need help relocating. Perhaps to Seaham just to the North which has undergone a bit of a renaissance. Not anywhere can be saved. Concentrate funds on Seaham.

19.02.2026 06:24 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Perhaps some places are not worth saving ? Perhaps it's wrong to spend public money to keep people in damp housing surrounded by toxic mining effluent ? Agree the beach is lovely though and much cleaner than it used to be.

There is a big depopulation problem in Spain. Villages in places like Extremadura where most people have left for the cities and they are just empty properties and old people. Perhaps we should examine the reasons for the lack of mobility of Horden residents and help them leave ?

I wonder how many of the organisations named make use of USA cloud based services for their internal operations ? Forget USA Vito on flows of cash between them. They may not have the ability to operate at all if a US government were to impose sanctions

Ed Miliband and Vladimir Putin are the same, in terms of your electricity bill

It looks really good. Battery technology is really advancing fast and opening new opportunities for public transport. Much lower cost and much less visually intrusive than all those overhead cables.
