No. it's the other way around. existing derogatory term for human beings was adopted into zoology.

slurs are derogatory regardless of context.

I've been called that word enough times to believe that it refers to intersex people in public consciousness, regardless of whether that is "correct", that's still how the word is used. it still has an extensive derogatory history that you can't just ignore because you want to use it for slugs.
