A photo of a railroad track through an autumn forest with the text First: the holidays. They're coming. Maybe you're heading home. Or back. Or somewhere. And there's something you're dreading. People who make you feel wrong. People who can hurt you like nobody else can hurt you.

A lot of my clients are shy or prickly when we first meet. That's ok. I know that it's just protecting them. You can be prickly or shy or "difficult" when we work together. There's no particular way you have to be in therapy. I am here to support you, no matter how you show up. We can figure it out.
A close up of three burrs on a burdock plant.
I also saw some burdocks and got thinking about how we think prickliness is a bad thing, but it helps spread the seeds of other plants. Just because it's unhelpful to our clothes and pets' fur doesn't mean it's inherently bad. That's just an unintended side effect of its true and useful function.
A white person's hand holding a small orange leaf
Inspired by Will's daily leaf (@_willforchange_ on Instagram) I kept an eye out for an excellent leaf while I was out for a walk today. I saw this little orange one, sort of half folded, like it was shy. It's a beautiful leaf, even if its beauty was a bit hidden at first.
