One of the reasons that the “MAGA” movement is misguided is that some of its adherents paint empathy as a vice rather than a virtue. I can’t imagine this form of quasi-Nietzschean morality; if all of the world acts like an *uber-mensch*, humanity won’t last long. 😔

I’m reading Tatiana Tibuleac’s novel The Summer My Mother Had Green Eyes, translated into English by Monica Cure. This marks the first time I’ve read a book by a Moldovan writer!

I was upset about the convoy *and* the synagogue shootings; I was far less active on X during the pandemic though, so I did not post about the convoy there (or much of anything). Surely I’m not in the minority by opposing both; maybe X is just more popular with the “selective outrage” crowd?

Why are atheism and religion presented as opposing viewpoints? I enjoyed the book I just finished, but I don’t understand this binary. A belief in God is not a requirement of every religion (ex: Buddhism). And I do believe in a God, but I am not affiliated with a religion.

I assume part of it is because of a much smaller user base over here, but yeah, it’s bizarre that it hasn’t come up at all here. I have objections to Elon Musk, of course, but at least ppl over there are engaged. I actually heard of the incident through ppl I follow on X (like you).

Bon Iver’s “Perth”, from 2011, is about Justin Vernon’s efforts to comfort a grieving friend. Although I’m not experiencing serious grief, it has been a challenging time and I’m grateful for the friends who have offered wisdom and encouragement.
