Very dapper! Love their outfit!

Also the implied long invisible legs "look" really cool! :D

If you see this, post a monster!

... Does a shapeshifting magic book with way too much power and poor grasp on human morals count?

Especially for a comic, the thighter you can make your script the better.

Cut any extra words. Make a piece of dialog do double duty. Everything you put on a page should be there for a reason.

Had to cut so many things when editing a scene before thumbnails.

After edits it always flows better.

One of my worst typos was when I was a teen and my friend spotted it while proof reading a novel I wrote.

Won't explain or translate it here because it was really really BAD but it was meant to say "they drew a sword from their mantle" in Finnish... -.-"

I was so embarrassed.

For comic writers: As you edit, read your own dialogue out loud. Multiple times.

Does it flow? Does it feel like something a real person would say? It makes the hitches in the script more obvious.

This is a strip that will likely fly over the heads of anyone who reads my stuff that ISN'T also a cartoonist, but hopefully will hit square between the eyes for other cartoonists.

Love the combination of fantasy and very modern looking glasses.

Also the expressions here are pure gold~~~ ๐Ÿงก

A comic featuring Cu Chulainn Alter (Berserker) and the Master of Chaldea from Fate/Grand Order.
Panel 1: Alter and Master look at approaching monsters on the horizon.
Master: Oh! Enemies!
Panel 2: Master holds out their hand, ordering Alter to move forward. Alter grips his spear, readying for action.
Master: Take 'em out, Alter!
Panel 4: Alter squints at the approaching enemies. They're blurry and he cannot make out their exact numbers.
Panel 5: Alter: How many are there...?
Master reaches into her bag. Master: Oh, try this.
Panel 6: Master places a pair of glasses on Alter, who has to lean down to accommodate the action.
Panel 7: Alter straightens up and blinks as his eyes adjust to the glasses.
Panel 8: Alter whirls toward the enemies, a vicious smile on his face as he can now see... so he can FIGHT!!

Obsessed with the idea that the glasses... are practical.

Everyone who tried to draw around me and started drawing LOVED it at the beginning because of their QUICK IMPROVEMENT. Then quit when they hit The Wallโ„ข๏ธ.

But it's when you hit The Wallโ„ข๏ธ that you NEED to push through with practice!! And you gotta do it for yourself, because it's ALWAYS worth it! ๐Ÿ˜ค

Character reference sheet of Edward for webcomic "Book of Change".

It's been... a while since I have drawn Edward in the comic, so made him a fresh reference sheet to remind myself how to draw this guy again.

... Why are you drawing him again?

Nooo reason.

Delicious shading! They have done a great job!

I especially love the subtle crosshatching effect in the ceiling in the first panel~

It feels so hollow to be promoting a new comic alongside all these horrors happening in real time. I know weโ€™re all out here doing the best we canโ€”some of it will help improve things, and some of it wonโ€™t move the needle at all.

Still, thank you to everyone who has ever supported small creators.

Thank you!

For some reason I find it easier to draw on a post-its rather on my sketchbook. The sketchbook somehow feels to "precious" to draw on it directly.

Glad to find another post-it doodler! :D

Inspired by discussions about thumbnails under this thread.

Love seeing other people's art process~!

My writing process for the comic is half-writing and half-thumbnailing.

Size of the thumbnails varies from small to ridiculously teeny-tiny.

Here are some examples of scenes from recent Book of Change pages.

Warning for some spoilers, if you aren't caught up.

That is really good plan too! You get to especially focus on experimenting with the art and the paneling and trying out fun things.

Listened to the episode while drawing and this moment in the podcast was glorious~~

So glad this is eternalised here. :"D

That is wise. (Trying to figure out what you were thinking is veeery familiar feeling.)

To be frank, these are a bit from the extreme end, because I was mainly trying to figure out what angles to use in panels.

Scene exploration doodles I usually draw a bit bigger (but not much).

Nice! Going to have to check the first comic out at some point!

For BoC, my dream from the start was to get it printed, so have tried to plan the comic with that in mind.

And here's example of the teeny tiny scene doodles.

These are some of the planning doodles from the recent BoC pages.

Some of them I scanned and used as a base for the page layout sketch.

Really nice! Honestly the panel sketches are clean enough to work even without the line-art!

And that's a valid plan. A scroll format is much easier to read on a phone. Full page layouts are a bit of a hazzle to make work in both print and online.

Nice!!

My traditional sketches are usually messy, since I like to draw them teeny tiny (e.g. fit multiple character sketches or scene doodles on a single post-it).

For some reason bigger papers stress me out. :"D

The name came from when my sis was beta reading my comic thumbnails asked "Why is this character floating over a field of potatoes?"

It totally wasn't a field of potatoes.

Hence the name "potato-sketches".

The sketch here is so clean!

Really nice framing of the character with the scythe. Adds a nice dramatic flair to the image~

Love the body language of the characters in the final page!

The subtle interactions (e.g. like how one of them is playing with the bowl with their hands before dropping the question) really adds to their characterisation.

27.02.2026 12:23 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Absolutely adore the chaos of the thumbnail sketch! I call my own thumbnails in this stage "potato-sketches", since no-one but the artist can tell what's going on. XD

Love the interactions between the characters in the final page. Group scenes are always a challenge and you did a great job here!
