That Wikipedia article is poorly written and several claims in it have no source (it even has a warning at the top of it). The talk page for that article is interesting , in such regard.

I think both look good, but obvs the 10px one has better readability. Like others said, keep one of them as an option if it's not a problem (development-wise), otherwise you may have to sacrifice the retro feel for accessibility.

One of my personal takes on pixel art is that, when someone can make a skeleton look recognizable and believable at such tiny size, they are a good pixel artist.
