That same paragraph starts “If you care, you’ll learn one thing from another.” Hard-hitting is right

Whoa… chipped beef gravy at least?
Novel way to make a pate
I can’t fathom why rendered poultry fat isn’t more popular. It’s incredible

Shark bite fittings have made plumbers of us all
For EM and EMS: The person was brought into a medical space, but the medical staff was excluded (vs excluded themselves).
Never cede this space and responsibility to others.

My wife convinced me to make a mud kitchen for the kids a few years ago. I was skeptical it would see much use, and boy have I been wrong! Estate auctions are great for stocking it with equipment.
Re: avoiding burnout-
Internal factors like this are essential, but I can’t help mentioning that external factors like having a good paycheck, supportive organization, plenty of time off, etc are also crucial.
(I hope #EMSsky becomes a thing)
I’ve thought about this a lot, too, and struggle to boil my thoughts down to clear messages. I like the way you put it.
The MD, VA, NC coasts in the winter are some of my favorite things in the world

A peds ED doc once defined status epilepticus for a group of EMS providers as “if the 911 call was for seizure and they’re still seizing when you show up, it’s status.”
A six-panel cartoon titled "real and implied birds". In the two panels in the top row, there's a rough legged-hawk sailing through the sky, next to a smooth legged hawk, which has smooth human legs. In the second row, there's a great-crested flycatcher looking dapper, next to an ok-crested flycatcher that has just a slightly less nice crest. In the third row, there's a mountain chickadee standing up on stones, next to a valley chickadee peeking out from a dip between stones. In the fourth row, there's a least bittern standing in some reeds, next to a most bittern that is enormous and stomping through a city, with people running in fear, helicopters overhead, and an overturned car on fire.
Another thing I made this year: Real and implied birds.
Christmas trees hauled in from the mountains tonight, including a little cedar “just her size”

Raw milk is one of those ideas that can really only take hold when people haven't seen a cow. if you see a cow from let's say ten feet or less you immediately understand the problem that pasteurization is solving
Providing a needed service might not—and maybe shouldn’t—produce a profit
On my morning peloton ride and the instructor said something great for new #emimcc trainees/providers: "Be good. But if you can't be good, be careful."
This is how inexperienced folks should be approaching high risk clinical practice: aspire for mastery, but be cautious in moments of inexperience.
Draining a real swamp (or wetland) is harmful, ecologically.
Kinda makes the political metaphor all the more fitting to me. Only malice or ignorance would lead someone to want or chant such a thing.

I started following you years ago because of a ventilator tutorial, stayed for the relatable family/food/life tweets, but being anti-kettle chips might be a bridge too far
Or only poll people who have had to USE their insurance
Paramedics follow protocols for this, but should also understand the nuance both medically (not all PEA is the same) and in regards to family (explaining clearly in plain speak the what/why/how of the decision to terminate).
It’s a huge responsibility.
