My local public library has several copies of the Dungeons & Dragons Player's Handbook (5th edition).
The librarians have had to list them as "in-library use only", I assume because otherwise people will keep them checked out.

I came out of it without lasting trauma, and I still look back at it as something I did that was hard but valuable. I'm not sure I saw anything near the worst of it, though. Either you kept that part from me or I got lucky, or it was just earlier/the wrong time for...most of the worst.
