I 100% had your same thought at first. I have a flight booked for the 15th this month, and I’m sweating it. But this is apparently the FAA’s way to revolt against not getting paid on top of already being short 3,500 controllers, mandatory overtime and 6-day work weeks even before the shutdown.

A friend of mine is married to a pilot, is a former flight attendant, mom worked for American Airlines most of her career. This is actually a tactic to end the government shutdown. The last shutdown they did this, the government reopened in days. Rich people don’t want to use public transportation.
