Since the start of this conversation, I've learned China has invested billions into oil infrastructure into Venezuela. China trades all over South America and the US wants the Americas.
There's a power play between the two largest militaries in the world.

It's one statement at the beginning of a conflict I choose to reserve judgment rn.
• The legality was called out
• Support of Venezuelans was stated
• Speaking to allies & upholding international law is the immediate course of action
What comes out of the talks remains to be seen.

I'm defending the one statement made.
You have zero idea of my background or what my family has been through. Nor do you know anything about me.
Have a good night.

Diplomacy is not fear. Knowledge is power.
Trump's power is that he's a psychopath with the largest army in the world.
Trump's weakness is a failing economy.
Again, we don't know what's being discussed. It's early and this will be ongoing for the foreseeable future.

And what would happen if "the greatest force of destruction the world has ever known" decides they don't like what we have to say about them?
My guess it'd be more than Trump's reaction when we supported an independent Palestinian state.

I'm not at all surprised you're aware of the history. You and I have had a much more productive conversation than I've had with reaector.
However, the question wasn't directed at you, as indicated by the use of the pronoun 'they' rather than 'you'. Sorry for not being clearer.

I fully agree what the US did was illegal. Same as it was in Iraq and every other time they've interfered with other govts.
My point is Canada's response has to balance condemnation with potential retaliation. Therefore restraint is warranted.

Yes. Read the National Security Statement. The US offered a loan for separation negotiations (lots to unpack).
You're right. Shitler thought his regime would survive too.
One country missteps and WWIII could breakout.

IMO, before invading us, the US will pass the bill, currently before Congress, to leave NATO.
Canada's recourse? NATO has to respond but it could lead to WWIII if Russia &/or Iran invades Europe.
We don't know what international partners are discussing. It's early. Caution, right now, is best.

This isn't about the economy it's about oil and keeping the peace.
Trump already said he'd invade to make us the 51st state. We have the 4th largest oil reserve after Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, and Iran.
Trump won't invade Saudi Arabia due to Israel. Iran already declared war on the US. Canada...

True. It was completely illegal.
In a perfect world a country could fully call out another country's illegal activity without any risk. That's not reality.
Reality is diplomacy requires consideration of ALL moving parts everywhere, not just Maduro.
We risk a US invasion if we push back too much.

Exactly. Oil producers:
1. Venezuela
2. Saudi Arabia
3. Iran (already declared war on US & EU)
4. Canada
Trump's claims:
1. Narco-terrorists
2. No issues & friendly with Israel
3. Nuclear weapons (accuracy unknown)
4. Drugs & unfair trade
Which country is next?

Under international law, Canada is required to keep international legal order such as diplomatic negotiations which is what "engaging with international partners" means.
What do you want Canada to do?

Sure, it's effortless to CANCEL a show but not to REBOOK a show.
Hamilton took a huge hit to protest the name change; a six week run was cancelled.

Not invading another county under false pretences.
This isn't about drugs or democracy, it's about oil. It's Trump's version of Iraq right down to calling drugs 'weapons of mass destruction'.

My Poli Sci instructor in college.
I graduated with a diploma in Arts and Science and transferred to university to finish my poli sci and writing degrees. His parting words got me through my first semester of university (it was rough for a variety of reasons).

It's absolutely effortless to find a venue of similar size on a date that doesn't conflict with other schedules at the venue or with artists?
Never were these issues effortless when I dealt with them as a music promoter, and I dealt with mostly local, independent artists, which should be easier.

I don't care if all Conservatives want to know or care, I'll say it anyways. Not speaking up is what Germans did and my Opa said if it ever happened again DO NOT STAY SILENT.
I agree there's a vested interest in the "SNAP=lazy" BS. It's more palatable to funnel money away from lazy people.

No, I didn't. I should've also tagged @aguyinnj.bsky.social in my previous post as I was addressing both your comments.
My apologies for the confusion. I'm not on Bluesky often and didn't realize only the last person in the thread gets tagged (too many years on Twitter).

As a Christian (opposed to Christian nationalist) I agree with you. The crosses they wear are just necklaces without meaning.
Anytime I challenge them with one Bible verse about character, they stop talking to me.

ICE are the most despised, much like the tax collectors were in Jesus time. They're not the least amongst us, since they're not poor or in need of safety, food, shelter, or clothing. ICE agents are well paid and causing people to be unsafe.

Very true. I've seen a lot of comments lately calling all people on snap benefits lazy.
I've also seen tiktoks from people on snap saying how worried they are because they already work multiple jobs and skip meals to feed their kids. That's not lazy. That's barely surviving.

Do you know how much more international students pay in tuition compared to domestic students?
Do you know the % of income the feds cut out of uni budgets with the International student visa cap?
Do you know how much govts used to fund post-secondary education in the '90s and early '00s?

Agreed. We're in for a wild ride.
To survive, colleges and universities will have to change their business models away from relying on international student tuition. Govts don't seem to want to invest in education again.

The international student visa caps were causing deep financial issues prior to Carney's cutbacks on the visas.
It's a major issue. Our entire post-secondary system across Canada is in crisis.
Why would any school only include upper admin in these talks? Money.
