Illustrated classroom floor plan titled “Room Layout.” Individual desks and chairs (shown separately) form rows around the perimeter and middle of the room. Cabinets line the left wall beside the door. Three rectangular tables sit in the center. At the front of the room are a podium and a whiteboard with bookshelves underneath. A note indicates that desks and chairs can be separated.
Diagram labeled “Caves” showing the same classroom layout with red arrows indicating students turning desks inward or toward walls to create individual, quiet workspaces. Desks face away from others to emphasize independent work areas.
Diagram labeled “Watering Holes” showing desks turned toward nearby classmates in small clusters. Red arrows indicate students facing one another in pairs or small groups to encourage collaboration and discussion.
Diagram labeled “Campfires” showing desks arranged in circles around tables and shared spaces. Red arrows indicate students facing inward toward group centers or the front teaching area, supporting group discussion or whole-class instruction.
Every time we publish an article on room layouts, everyone asks for pictures. Not this time—they’re already here!
@mrrablin.bsky.social left an admin “baffled,” but this layout really works. 🙌

This has been an increasingly pervasive problem for nearly 30 years.
There are not enough hours in the day to fit in all the demands made on teens time. School/learning, sports, clubs, activities, religious activities, family, friends/social life, job...
Plus high stress enviornments...

This is absolutely GENIUS! So many teachers struggle with seating plans, and this covers it all! I can honestly even see grades as young as second utilizing this. #EduSky

“If we want kids to become lifelong readers, then from a very young age we need to let them read what they want to read.
And—this is crucial, too—remember to allow yourself to do the same.
I cannot stress this enough.” —Ryan Bani Tahmaseb, Teacher-Librarian

This is a truth that school librarians know well! Remember your school librarian is there to help collaborate, support your curriculum, and extend your literacy instruction in explicit and meaningful ways like those mentioned in the @edutopia.org article below ⬇️

Student-Created Math Word Problems Help Motivate Deep Learning
These student-constructed problems foster collaboration, communication, and a sense of ownership over learning.
Having students create their own word problems in math shows you what they actually know—and creates a more engaged classroom. 🌟

Every day was a crisis-mode day at both schools this week. SEL crises. Medical crises. But everyone was okay, and I was able to help, whether in big ways or small. Always my goal. To help. ❤️
And one of my 4 kids surprised me with a collage of us for Valentine’s Day. My heart is full. 💗
